Eating like a cavewoman!

Monday, November 11, 2013

No, I've not forgotten SP, or any of you. I just am doing other things.

It's been a rocky 6 weeks or so. We had a great loss when Ron's brother died unexpectedly in an accident. He's sorely missed, and it's kind of taken a huge toll from all of us.

My reactions to various foods are getting volcanic, if they are grains. Ate wheat so that I could be tested for celiac, just 4 weeks ago, and oy... it set off some sort of chain reaction so that I could hardly eat. Blisters in my mouth caused the whole inside of my mouth, palate, gums and throat, and tongue, to blister up and peel. This lasted two weeks, with too much benedryl. I don't even look at anything with rice, barley, oats, wheat, or any grasses, anymore. I even react to a lot of the foods that used to be safe. Apparently this is normal with Oral Allergy Syndrome.

I had my daughter here for a week. She's been dabbling with Paleo and lost 30 lbs this year, with frequently going off it, and doing lots of exercising. So we went full Paleo with her here. We lost about 2 lbs each.

But right after she left, I picked up some vile stomach bug and spent a week mostly between bed and bathroom and not eating a whole lot but potatoes baked in the microwave and chicken roasted at the local Costco, and lots of licorice tea, because I just wasn't up to cooking at all. Not so great. But I dropped 17 lbs in 8 days. Then it cleared up a bit and I was up doing things, again, and back on Paleo, and gained 10 lbs back, so obviously dehydration.

It's nice that some of it is staying off. I'm going to try this. I feel better on it.

One of our chicks started laying!

We have also been adopted by a rather problematic cat who seems to have PTSD and is soooo reactive. A lovely boy, though. Ron's granddaughter named him Paws.

Dear Sue, it looks like Paleo is your best alternative. I have a problem with all grains too... So I really have little choice but to avoid them.

Paws is adorable.

Hi Sue, So sorry the last couple of months have been so hard for you. Losing your bf brother had to be very sad and difficult for both of you. It's especially hard when it was so unexpected. . .It's good to see you back. I can't remember the last time you wrote a blog as overall you've been inactive on the Team (?SP) emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon for quite some time.

Sorry about the loss of your bil - adding those weird allergies to the mix must have been horrible. I hope you are doing better soon

So sorry for your loss, that is a huge adjustment. Hope the change in diet (i.e. what you eat) sets well with you long-term. It's not about weight, per se, ever, is it? It's about feeling good.

Your mentioning Paws having PTSD reminded me of the incident when Boomer the grand dog came to visit yesterday. The Prisoner (my cat) was somewhat startled when Boomer nonchalantly meandered into the kitchen. Leapt about 4 feet into the air and grabbed onto the drapes. Son laughed, and I let the Prisoner out. That was between 4 and 5 p.m. yesterday.

Prisoner came back at his usual morning time for breakfast, but he didn't come back in the rest of the evening, even though the dog left. By the way, this dog does NOT chase cats... he's very laid back.

Hug a vet, and have a great today, my friend!

Hi Sue, nice to see you back. emoticon

Sorry to hear you're still struggling with allergies, mine seem to be mostly sorted at the moment.
I blogged on it a couple of weeks ago.
Seems I was allergic to artificial sweeteners, all types, and Boy! is it in everything. Even things you wouldn't dream of like toothpaste!

Anyway I've been off then for nine weeks and now they're out of my system and I constantly check ingredients I feel great. I'm also allergic to lettuce, pineapple and latex but I've already been avoiding those for a while.

My only bug bear now is a broken kneecap which has set wrongly but I'm back at hospital on Thursday to see what can be done.

Take care,
Martha-Ann emoticon

Your food allergies sound awful. I hope you discover a healthy way to eat that is both tasty and easily digested. Love the family photos!
