I participated in the National Veterans Day 5k today--or what should have been a 5k, LOL. It was an out and back--go to the water stop and turn around--but the water stop never came. I remember thinking at 2.38 miles, it surely must be around the next bend. Instead I see the front runners heading back waving their arms--turn around!, turn around! The course mileage was a bit off, and instead of a 5k I did 4.52 miles total according to my Garmin.
The race was quite small, maybe less than a hundred folks, including one who carried a mannequin dressed in fatigues over his shoulder. Hoo-rah! There was a ceremony beforehand to honor veterans and active duty. All in all very nice, though chilly.
I had my interval timer with me, but didn't turn it on. I was so cold at the beginning I thought I would just run until I got warmed up, then kept going. No walk breaks, ran the whole thing. I think it was such a crappy workout week this last week, I needed to prove to myself I could have a good run (and it was great!).
Temp: 45 degrees, wind chill 40 degrees
Total time: 52:56.
It's a given I take horrible pictures, but here I am in all my jowly glory. The t-shirt is very cool and there was also a finishers medal and commemorative pin.
