THE TRIFECTA OF DIVAS

Sunday, November 10, 2013

Not living in New York I usually have to depend upon TV to see the "Broadway Babies"-- the stars of the latest shows--because no longer do they go across the country with road tours of their hits. I love Broadway and have seen most of the stars, hits and legends that appeared before 1969 when I left and moved to Memphis. In 1979 I moved to Fort Lauderdale and though I would take trips up to New York and do the tourist thing of seeing as many shows as I could in a week since 1985 I haven't been back there. Now the only chance I get to see names---and there are so many 'names' that have appeared on the scene in the last 3 decades I have fallen way behind.

A good example is Patti LuPone who has had 22 nominations, winning 12, for her appearances on stage but I have never seen her on a stage. Do you even know who she is? Megan Mullally is probably familiar to you as Karen on "Will and Grace" who she played for 8 years anmd can be seen in reruns but can you name the 3 shows she starred in on Broadway? I have a feeling if you didn't watch "Smash" last season, and most of you didn't so it was cancelled, the name Megan Hilty will only bring a puzzled look to your face.

All 3 are are Broadway stars who fill cabarets and concert halls when they aren't on TV or doing movies and I will get to see all 3 this coming "Season" as each will be doing a solo concert with Seth Rudetsky who is a musician, actor, writer, and radio host who has played for most of the divas of today over a 3 month period.

Over the next few months I will be posting some of their YouTube performances and some information about them on my www.blogster.com/songanddancem
an web page so keep an eye out for them and, of course, I will be reviewing them for broadwayshowbiz.com

Actually I do know Patti LuPone. I've even met her. A good friend of mine (and former co-worker) is her audio engineer. I will be sure to have him tell her you are a big fan!
