Gym Membership

Sunday, November 10, 2013

I was so active growing up. Between cheerleading, volleyball, tennis and dancing, I got so much exercise in between slices of pizza. As an adult, however, I don't have as much energy. One of my high school friends, Annette, was always full of energy and did activities like running.

Not me.

Some people seem to be born with two coffee pots that are always brewing caffeine. My zodiac sign, Scorpio, has always made me a tad more relaxed. It took a lot to get me to walk every day, but I've been doing it for a while now and feel great.

I just read an article about how great gyms can be. The truth is that I don't live in a climate where walking outside is always an option. Like many other adults, I have a treadmill that I rarely use. One of the things I enjoy about walking outside, however, is seeing other people. This article was written by someone who enjoyed being surrounded by others like her, trying to achieve personal fitness goals regardless of size.

Joining a gym is definitely on my to-do list. I think at some point on my fitness journey I'd enjoy going to one. For financial reasons, it's not something I can do right now. But in the future, absolutely.

Gyms are not my favorite place in the world, but with that said, when it's within your budget, Planet Fitness is great (in my experience) and only $10 a month! I think with annual fees the full year usually costs me around $150 and they often run enrollment specials, particularly around the New Year. Just a thought =)

I passed our local gym this morning - and was astounded at the amount they are now charging for monthly membership. I think I could buy two treadmills for 6 months membership. It isn't on my list of 'to do's', but I can understand that you would like to go. Hope you get your wish.

I understand having a financial limitation that's keeping you from joining a gym at present.

Just a plug for gyms--I have been in one since August of this year (2013), and I am now addicted.

Good for you for walking!

I'm lovin' my membership at Riverwalk Athletic Center and yes, in the winter it becomes even MORE valuable!

But: there are ways to keep moving which don't require a gym. For instance SparkPeople has oodles of workout videos available for free right through your pc in the comfort of one's home. Also the library has workout DVDs which you can rent such as Leslie Sanzone's walking DVDs.

Gyms can be great if you go. The times they've worked or me is when I have someone to go with! I also enjoyed taking classes and getting to meet the others in the class.
