So Glad to Be a Runner

Sunday, November 10, 2013

Want to get the feel of running a half marathon? Here is a video clip that the pace group leader for the run 30 sec/walk 30 sec got in four different locations. One non-runner took one section and her hubby ran back after finishing to get the end:

She posted the video on facebook, so hope you can access it.

Here's the race results on CoolRunning:

I'm listed as the number 4 out of 15 finisher in my age group, 60-64. Interesting, although my Garmin gave my pace as 11:02, cool running has my pace as 11:12. My gun time was 2:26:47 and my chip time was 2:26:02. The winner of my age group is from my running group, is a very experienced full marathoner, and a very nice person.

Our local paper, Lakeland Ledger, published this article, "Challenging Course provides tough test." The overall winner is a wonderful young (27 year old) man who has sold me running shoes and has cheered me on. I have met the 2nd place woman finisher and I have trained with the 4th overall woman finisher. I definitely knew 50 of the 750+ finishers. Love having a half right here in my home town!

I will be re-running this half marathon in my mind for months to come! It was an awesome experience. I am so glad I am a runner!

A special race made even better since it was local and you personally know a number of the participants.

Now come aren't a runner....You are a Damn Good Runner! By the way, how you ever had IT band issues and what did you do other than physio to solve them? I have them now and I thought I would ask a runner.

Have participated in many halfs, one full, but never run them, always walked. The racing community is such a joyous one and they DO get addictive! I love visiting different cities so I get to experience 13 miles of new turf! But running with people you know must be awesome, too!

    Great for you!

Thanks for posting the link to the 30/30 group. I had been trying the Galloway run/walk method but gradually started ignoring the intervals on my Gymboss, and my total times got slower! Next time out, I want to go back to the intervals and see if my time improves.

    Way to go Marsha!!!

I love being a runner too. I've never regretted becoming a runner, even on those cold, wet, windy, before-the-sun-comes-up days when everything aches or twinges or throbs or complains. Perhaps its because we know that we share even the misery with our fellow runners. And still come back for more.

Great job on your race.

The official pace is based on 13.1 miles. The Garmin pace is calculated from the distance it measured, which was probably longer than 13.1 miles. Depending on how wide you take corners, how much weaving around runners you do (etc.), you almost always run farther than the official distance.

Congratulations! As a beginning runner at age 50+, you inspire me! I just ran my 2nd 5K. Don't know where I'll go from here, but I love your title, and *hope* I can echo those words someday. (I really am glad to be doing what I'm doing, but it is still so hard!) Hooray for you!
