Extra Calories

I have been slow in the weight loss game recently. In particular, this has been a rough week. We traveled to various states this week on some short trips. Well, I will say that we had a lot of fun. Just the two of us and visiting some landmarks in the southeast. The problem is, when we travel, we go to restaurants everyday. There were a few days that we ate at restaurants twice in a day. I tried to be healthy - sometimes we ate a Subway and I tried to make healthy choices. For instance, no mayo and several veggies. It did not matter. We also walked a lot. A few days I walked over 2 hours. As I have learned through the years exercise is necessary. It is great. Nevertheless, I have to also watch my calories.

I have learned that calories do add up. Here is something I want to share.

A forkful of mac ‘n cheese here, a few fries there; how bad can that be? “For every 100 extra calories you consume daily, you gain 10 pounds each year,” from Woman's Day.

In the past I also had the mindset that if I exercise over an hour or two daily, I can just go eat more. emoticon But it all adds up.

Yes travels are fun but...you pay one way or another when traveling. Funny how things actually exchange when traveling - like loose from the waste band ($ in wallet) and add to the hips (CRAP emoticon - as pic puts it bluntly) emoticon

Enjoy your time back now to loose what you may have gained emoticon

    It is really hard to travel and eat right. Even when you order what seems healthy, you don't know how the kitchen prepared it. I guess all we can do is our best and keep up that exercise, just as you did. I am glad you had fun. emoticon

    I love trips like that, but yes, the eating out gets me. There aren't always a lot of healthy choices. I love your visual.

    Ohh I made that mistake too about eating and exercising it off.. No worky! lol. Yes its totally about what you eat. Ive learned this. 1 can of coke is like a meal. carbs in moderation only. Cheese - very bad. No salad dressing! Linit or eliminate sweets. Also I was told that you can splurge on the weekends, oddly enough I guess your body gets used to a routine. As long as you keep a routine of when you splurge, your body will not store fat and will know when its coming. This works for me, as I splurge on the weekends only and weight falls off again during the week. Hope that helps:)

    Traveling is hard. But still, I think we have the tools to make better choices than we USED to make, even while traveling. You are doing great. You WON'T be eating an extra 100 calories every day for a year, so don't beat yourself up over it. Keep walking and carry on!

    It is so much easier to just NOT eat the extra calories in the first place. That thing about 100 calories is true, so tracking is important, and if I have a higher calorie day I try to balance it out with days of lower calories as I don't get in as much exercise so at least I can learn to eat smaller meals.

The upside is that we have left overs so I do a bit less cooking. My DH is not on board with the smaller meals but I can tell food goes further with me eating proper portions MOST of the time. I am still learning about self control.

    I'm with a lot of folks here--good memories are hard to find, so glad you made some! As for the food, it'll balance out when you get home. I understand where you're coming from, and tomorrow's another day ;-). emoticon (I'm adding a 'we' because I did some major slippage this week, too--and didn't leave the city!)

    But you made great memories and you have to eat those extra 100 calories EVERY day for a year to gain those 10 lbs.

    You are so right - it does add up and it's so difficult to not eat on vacation because doggie bags are not practical. Finally talked DH into sharing meals as he (as well as I) hated to see the 'wasted food...
Glad you had fun - the memories will last a lot longer than the pounds!

  You know it is funny since I started not eating proceeded foods,no white flour,bread or rice when I eat out what I think is clean food usually has something in it that I can taste isn't what I should have. Wishing you the best !
