Cholesterol and chemo

Saturday, November 09, 2013

A week or so ago, I blogged that I had been recently diagnosed with high cholesterol for the first time. Several people commented that it might be chemo induced. It turns out that is correct. My oncologist said chemo can create a load on the liver and makes cholesterol levels go haywire. Surgery can do the same thing.

It's all temporary and should go back to normal a couple months after my treatments are over. It just goes to show how hard my body is working right now.

My primary doc would not even consider cholesterol readings until three months after I finished the chemo and, even then, he did not put much emphasis on them.

I'm glad to know that it is temporary.
I had a feeling mine was up because of the chemo, but I didn't know why, so thank you for the explanation also.
