Back on track - balance restored

Saturday, November 09, 2013

I feel like these past few weeks have been a bit lumpy and bumpy in places but it is now smoothing over again and I feel the balance is restoring. I am back on track.

Is is only 6am but today has been perfect so far. Off to the markets for supplies of free range eggs, fresh produce and seedlings for succession planting. And now I am home and breakfast / today's snacks are in the oven - my favourite - baked vegetables, particularly beetroot!

The weather is forecasting rain and storms for the next week so I visited mum and dad on their farm yesterday and picked up some large containers full of chicken manuer (they buy it by the truck load and stock pile it, so I get into it with a shovel). I want to have this spread over my entire yard and gardens before it rains later today so everything can have a good feed once it is watered in by the rain. The garden will virtually jump out of its skin when that happens!

I was able to give them some zucchinni from my garden and they gave me some tomatoes from theirs. I got mum that waterbottle she wanted and handed her my wish list for Christmas. We all decided that from now on we only buy each other something that is asked for and not just anything we think the other person will like. Here we are trying to clean out our houses of clutter and unused objects and we don't want any more coming in. My wish list was filled with garden items including a second worm farm as I am creating soil from my kitchen scraps and can't keep up with it so I need two on the go!

Here are my worms eating the scraps to create rich soil.

It's incredible to think that on worms and kitchen scraps alone I recently filled two large potplants full of soil (made solely by the worms eating the scraps) and am now growing my cucumbers out of it..... It is such a holistic and harmoneous approach and I love to live simply. A very rewarding experience for me indeed!

I am in my element at the moment as the garden (that I've put all that work and nurturing into) is producing abundently and I'm already giving produce away and today's visit to the markets was all about succession planting so I have a constant supply of food. I purchased 3 dozen seedlings of various varieties.

The 8 accumulative hours I have now spent in my garden since the beginning of November (my personal MOWVEMBER challenge) has already reaped incredible results. I'm astounded actually at what I have achieved in that short space of time.

My life feels pretty relaxed at the moment and my plans and personal strategies are all coming to fruition. I'm in a very good place. It is now time for me to relax, restore, replenish and revitalise - a week of good wholesome food, rest, exercise and healthy living is planned for.

Here are my latest zucchini and cucumber pickings ...........

Thanks for joining me on this journey!

Sounds like things are going as planned with your garden, fabulous. At my house here we have such a small yard that you can't garden unless its in containers. In Nevada we are water restricted depending on what time of the year it is and most people don't have green lawns and many people have fake greenery. I don't have much time or inclination for gardening I'm afraid. Growing up my parents had a garden and I recall eggplant and other foods that didn't appeal to me then that I love now. Isn't that the way sometimes when we are young?
Licorice tea doesn't sound too friendly for my system because I am careful what I eat and drink since I have digestive issues, acid reflux sometimes and a gallbladder that is temperamental. However, I am careful and all is well most of the time. Its why I try to eat as natural as I can because that processed food, dairy and meat has my system rebelling against me. I like to avoid issues since I was sickly and always at the doctor from the time I was born until my mid 20's. I avoid white foods and products, processed and junky foods as much as I can. I like feeling good. I slept well earlier thank you. I think I overdid the walking and exercise Saturday but its okay I figured today would be a rest day. I figure during football season I'll take Sundays off for the most part because games are on from 10am-9pm just about. I don't watch the first games usually but there is much to do!
I don't think I'd want to open a tea shop since Republic of Tea did it for me already and I get my Strawberry Tea from Ahmad's Tea through Amazon. You'd never get me out of there my SO says lol. So true I'd be the crazy tea lady. I'm considering tea gifts for a few friends and then I'm done with my friends for the holidays and less for me to deal with since Thanksgiving is the last week of November here in the States!

    Your week ahead sounds delightful.

It is wonderful when a plan comes together, and what 8 hours of focused attention can do to a garden. emoticon emoticon x

Love the garden, great looking veggies. Sounds like you have a great farmers market. We have two here, both farmers only, so you know where you food came from, who grew it and how it was grown.
