When I joined Spark People I did not know what I was really like until I noticed differences in how I was feeling and in particular what I was able to do.
We had moved into a semi rural setting with water and woods, lots of space, trails and freedom to enjoy it all. But I had slowly become unable to walk any distance because of pain and instability in my knees and feet. My knees would give out without warning and at times I would be on crutches for days. My feet would also prevent me from doing everyday things and sometimes the pain from both keep me awake at night. I accepted this as "life." And on top of that I had also gained so much weight that my grandson observed one day that I was now "round."
So in my new surroundings it was a challenge to walk, let alone trek cross country or through the woods without pain or falling. My balance had now become a big issue. I needed a stout walking stick, in the winter especially, to keep upright and mobile but that did not prevent some alarming falls.
So what happened? I decided that I felt so bad physically and mentally that things had to change. And I was "rounder " than ever! But what to do?
I needed to find something that would work with me where I was and how I was. And that is how I found Spark People. I looked on line. And Voila! I knew that this program would work for me.
I struggled at first and only stuck with it for 6 months . I lost 15 pounds and then I dropped out. I came back 6 months later determined to stick with it. I have. I am now coming up to 1 year and I am no longer round just a bit "fluffy" in places. People actually call me skinny but I am not. It is the contrast I think. For me it isn't how much I lost but what I have gained.
I feel healthy and look healthy. I walk for 90 minutes everyday. If I do have problems walking then I just sit down and do a cardio video with Coach Nicole . I no longer use crutches or walking stick . I love weight lifting , kick boxing, yoga and Qi Gong.
Right now I am working with the Spark Coach program and I wouldn't be where I am now without it. It pushes me to remain consistent and to challenge myself to do things I would not normally do....like blog.
So all in all Spark People has not just been about dropping pounds for me .It is about building the best me that I can given my circumstances. I have a long way to go but I will get there. One day at a time.
