hi all! once again I am posting late in the day. had an appt. this morning at the dentist to get a cavity filled. I love the fact that my dentist has 7 am appointments. that means I have to get up around 5 so I can make it out the door by 6. but I was done and on the way home by 7:30. got home and was really kind of tired (the down side to having to be up and be someplace means I start waking up and watching the clock about 4) so I took a quick nap and a Tylenol to soothe my jaw. got up, ran into town and came home to find 2 boxes left by the mail lady in the garage. one was some stuff I ordered from amazon, but the other box! Holy moley!
recently we had a garage built by a wonderful company called "coach house garages". if you live in the Midwest and are contemplating having a garage or outbuilding done, I highly recommend them. they aren't cheap, but they really get every detail right from first to last. you can read reviews of their work on guildquality dot com. a couple days after the work was completed and the bill settled up, I got a phone call asking me to fill out a review form on the site, so I did, and gave them well deserved high marks (the build crew even puts a sticky paper on the inside walls with all their names on it). the speed, efficiency and quality was really great--the foundation was poured by a separate independent contractor they work with, and he did an excellent job too. on a Monday morning the build crew arrived at 7 am with the partially assembled structure on a flat bed. about 10 am a second truck showed up with the trusses and shingles on it. by 3 pm we had a finished building. rob elected to do the electrical and inner finishing work himself, but they will do that as well. they matched our siding and shingles and just did wonderful work.
imagine my surprise today when I opened the second of my two packages today to find a gift box from an amish bakery in the Illinois town that is the companys home office. inside were a full size loaf of honey white bread, a 9x9 tray of those gooey iced cinnamon rolls (I normally don't like these--but this recipe is an excellent one!) half dozen large snickerdoodles, a small loaf of pumpkin bread and a jar of amish peanut butter, which is peanut butter and marshmallow crème combined. now THAT is a thank you gift! the best part is that since they sent a gift, they chose a local business to work with to produce the gift. a really nice touch. now I don't know what I am going to do with some of this stuff--tomorrow I will give some of the cinnamon rolls to my parents, the cookies can go in the freezer, with the pumpkin bread, the loaf of bread comes at just the right time--I can slice it thinly and use it right now. as for the peanut butter--not sure--for the moment it will go in the pantry. it was just so funny to get this lovely box of SWEETS the day I got a tooth filled! but honestly--it was such a thoughtful and wonderful gesture from a really good company. gives you hope for the future--two of the build crew of 5 men were young guys--probably in their early twenties. they had a terrific work ethic and watching them as they tackled their tasks (mainly the roof and installing the garage door) was such a pleasure.
so even though I was out early and had to face the challenge of this lovely gift, I have done okay on my eating today, and managed to get 3 miles of leslie done this afternoon--since the early morning appt. and all the rain that has been falling today kept me from my run.
have a great day everybody!
