Guilty Pleasures

I have diabetes and should not eat sugar. I have been guilty of eating candy almost every day. I am a sugar addict and the teenager in me was saying I could have sugar when ever I wanted. I know this is not good and eating this way is bad for my life. Sugar can rob me of my health and take years off my life.

For my November goal I was going to aim on eating candy only three times a week. Even that is to much sugar for me. So I am going to go candy free for a week and than buy sugar free candies. I will not bite into a sugar filled candy bar again. There are lots of great sugar free candies that I have tried before and liked.

For treats I am going to have fruit that is in season. A good apple with an oz of high quality cheese will be a great treat. Grapes are in season now and are very sweet. Even this I need to not do tons of, just save it for that special treat. I will not reward myself with sweets I will give myself new books.

When I eat candy I feel guilty because I know it is not good for me. I should not put myself through this and will not do it any more. I will be sugar free as much as I can.

    My hubby & I use to be sugar addicts big time! We would buy several 6 packs of chocolate bars each week and between the two of us eat them all every week! Every day I would eat 3-4 full sized candy bars along with other sugar laden products. The more I ate them the more I craved them! It totally got out of control. So we made a promise to each other to not eat any candy for a week and then another week and another. It was very hard at first because when we would go shopping those little candy bars would scream our names! Eventually the cravings stopped and now we rarely eat sweets at all!!!

    My husband is diabetic and his numbers have been high for quite a while so in order to get them down to normal, I've kept all goodies and candy out of the house. He has a treat once a week. There are also lots of diabetic hard candies which you might find you like, that might satisfy that sweet craving. You can suck on them for a long time and enjoy the sweetness. I get them at the pharmacy.

    All the best and yes, fruit is a great choice of snacks!

    Those are some great ideas for healthy snacks and I like the way you're talking so positively to yourself (I could learn from this!)
    For a tasty snack lately I've been eating about 7 almonds with an apple- I like the taste and texture combo.
