Been Thinking

Tuesday, November 05, 2013

It's 7am and the garbage truck has come and picked up the garbage and left already making a ton of noise. I'm surprised Elijah is still sleeping. He normally wakes up when the garbage truck comes this early and when it comes later in the day he looks out his bedroom window or we follow it if we are outside, well at least attempt to follow it. One day last week Elijah slept until 9:30. It's on rare occasion any more that he sleeps til 8 let alone til 9 or later. We didn't make it to the park yesterday. I had put in a work request for an outlet on Sunday and the lady in the office said they would be out on Monday. I figured that since I put it in on Sunday they would be here on Monday morning but no. It was around 2pm when somebody came. It was a quick job. I wanted to spend a few hours at the park and since we turned the clocks back it starts to get dark shortly after 5pm here. So any outside time has to be done before 5pm. I miss the days being longer but I am glad to have an extra hour of sleep once a year. I went to the fitness center last night. I walked on the treadmill for 65 minutes and lifted some weights. 30 of the 65 minutes on the treadmill the carpet cleaning guy was cleaning the carpet. Fortunately I didn't have to get off the treadmill. I thought I was going to hyperventilate because before he left he sprayed something that smelled really good on the carpet. I decided last night that since Elijah and I went for a walk around the complex and I walked on the treadmill for 65 minutes that I was going to get my electronic foot massager out and use it while Elijah was in the bathtub. I got some of my Avon's foot works foot stuff out and gave myself a pedicure. I didn't paint my toe nails because Elijah decided that he wanted to have a pedicure. So he pulled the plug and got out and got dried off and sat on the toilet like I was and put his feet in the water. I turned on the jets and the massager and he's like this is the life. I used the foot scrub on his feet and he soaked his feet for a little while longer. I got my weekly Monday night phone call from a friend of mine who was on her way home from Dart Ball. She started playing last season and would call me every Monday night. I look forward to talking to her for a little while and getting updates on the team and the church and everything else she knows that's going on in PA. One of the things that I am going to do when I finally take a trip to PA when ever that might be I have no idea is go to one of her favorite restaurants with her. Maybe another day we can go to the other. She likes to go to Bob Evans and Eat N Park. I used to work at Bob Evans so it's not really my favorite but I do like Eat N Park. I am looking forward to spending some time with her and my other friends in PA. I'll spend some time with my sister while I'm in PA but since the rest of my family in PA doesn't really talk to us I'm not going to make it a priority to spend much time if any with them. I've been trying to go to PA for a while now but without a car and a job it's kinda hard to travel or go any where. Yesterday Elijah got up at 7:45 and we didn't go outside until after 4. Time just got away from me. After we ate our pepperoni rolls we turned off the tv and took a walk around the complex and then waited for my mom. Elijah likes to wait for my mom. He always says we need to go somewhere to either go down the toy paths or go grocery shopping. I am going to start making a list to go grocery shopping over the next 9-10 days. Sam's club is having a sale on some things that we normally get. I love sales. I'm going to check out the ads next week and plan a shopping trip. I would like to make the most out of our shopping trip. Once I get a job then I'm going to start making it a priority that we go to the fresh produce store at least twice a month so we can have fresh fruits and veggies. I'm thinking that once I get a job I am going to set aside some money so I can get some huge planting pots and some soil and have a small veggie garden. I would so love to have Elijah see how veggies grow. I am going to get a pot for Elijah to grow some carrots. Hopefully we can get a bunch. I would love to have a bigger hose as well. We have a 15 foot hose so mom can wash her car with but I would love to use it to water my plants but we don't have a spicket close enough to use the hose. I'll go to Walmart and Lowes and Home Depot and see who has the cheapest. I want yellow cherry tomatoes so I'm thinking that I am going to have to buy some yellow cherry tomatoes at either Sam's club or Walmart and use the seeds from them because I can't find them in a seed packet. I am going to love the shopping trip that we take to get the dirt and pots and plants. I'm probably going to spend a couple hundred dollars to get everything. But in the end it'll be totally worth it for fresh veggies. There's a lady that works with mom that has lemon trees and last year we would get some of the lemons. She started bringing lemons in like September. This year the lady didn't mention anything about lemons so we were thinking that we weren't going to get any because she might have had a bad year. Yesterday she brings in some bags of lemons. Mom got one of the bags and there is at least two dozen lemons in the bag. So happy. I love lemons that are fresh off of the tree. If I had the land I would have several kinds of fruit trees. I want the citrus trees and the apple trees, pear trees and other fruit trees. If I had the land I want some berry bushes. Blueberries, blackberries and raspberries. I want like 5-6 bushes of each and like 4 of each of the fruit trees. I also want a huge garden as well. I remember my one pap would have two gardens. Big gardens. He had asparagus in the upper garden. Fresh fruits and veggies are the best. It's a lot of work but totally worth it in the end. My pap had a small pumpkin patch. I remember that all of the grandkids would get to pick out a pumpkin and he would carve our names in them and we would watch the names get bigger as the pumpkins get bigger. I want a pumpkin patch for Elijah. So many good memories at my pap's farm. I had so many good memories with my other set of grandparents. My other pap had a small garden and he would grow rhubarb and my grandma would make rhubarb pie with it. So yummy. I think I am going to have some rhubarb in my garden as well. Both sets of my grandparents are gone now so I can't ask them for advice on garden growing or for grandma's rhubarb pie recipe. I miss them.

There are several garden shops nearby. I've been thinking about getting a job at one of them. The only problem would be I would probably spend my entire paychecks there. I love fruits and veggies and I want Elijah to learn to love his veggies as well.

I love how you get so excited about growing fruits and vegetables - seeds, bulbs, all kinds of things. Is there a garden shop nearby? Perhaps you could look for a job there. Then you could learn about how to manage all the different kinds of plants and maybe even get an employee discount when you are ready to start your own garden!

It's encouraging to hear you speak with such love regarding your grandparents. Mine were also into gardening & I miss them greatly. Blessings upon you today.

The garden idea sounds wonderful! There truly is nothing like fruits and veg that you've grown yourself.

My granddad had a garden, too. I can remember him letting me plant radishes each spring -- it's a great memory.
