Does this count as subtle?

Tuesday, November 05, 2013

Tonight we are having curried beef. I prepared most of it yesterday, carefully weighing the ingredients, knowing that today will be a scramble as I have to go out to meet our grandson from school quite soon. I won't be back until almost eating time, so the final preparation was done this morning and it will be left in the slow cooker ready for serving when I get home.

Now I love lentils in curry. (In fact, I just love lentils). DH, however, doesn't like them so I have to be subtle. I usually add a couple of spoonfuls when he isn't looking - and it adds flavour, texture and goodness. So far he hasn't questioned it - just eaten and enjoyed.

All was progressing nicely until it was time to add the lentils. DH was safely in the garden, and it was a new bag to open. Instead of pouring it straight into the mix I carefully opened the bag and began to decant it into its storage jar when...... horror of horrors.......

The bottom of the bag burst open.....

a small quantity went all over the floor.....

and the rest went into the pan...........................

I've cleared up the mess (my goodness, those little red discs go just about EVERYWHERE) and calculated how much is now in the curry.

750 grams!

To the uninitiated that's approximately 1.65 POUNDS!

Oh boy! Did I say 'subtle'?

They are starting to come to the surface. There is NO WAY I can disguise it. At the moment I've had to transfer it to the top of the stove as my crockpot isn't large enough.

Hey ho! I can see I'll be eating curried soup for the rest of the month. As for tonight's supper - well, it's back to the drawing board because I just don't have any more time to sort it.

Onwards and Upwards Sparkeroonies. I'm not letting a little disaster get me down, I've picked myself up with the lentils and now it's on to the next job.

Enjoy your day.

Delicious? No doubt. There's nothing like a good curry on an autumn day!
Subtle? No way.

I agree with NOWYOUDIDIT -- puree them!

Thank you for the smile!

Miranda is a poet and I didn't know it. This was a great visual...lentils running like lava into the pot and all over the floor. You'll figure it out. And we'll wait to hear how much you really like lentils after you have to eat and eat and eat them!!

This sort of thing always happens to me when I'm pressed emoticon

Sure it'll be delish - certainly looks it - but then I love lentils too. Hope it goes down OK with hubby - otherwise that you'll find something good for him and make him happy!

Good luck and emoticon

By curried do you mean you are going to "puree" the soup? That is exactly what I do to my white bean soup!! I remove all the veggies etc to a bowl with a slotted spoon after they've cooked. Then I take a stick blender and puree the beans into the broth. It looks like a lovely white creamy broth with no sight of a bean! This is the only way my adult children eat beans when they visit- they can't see them so they don't think they are in the soup!!! LOL!! I love to do this with foods they "say" they don't like and then they eat them telling me how delicious they are!! After all it's good for them! LOL!!

No matter what it is, when you try to hide something, it always comes back to bite you in the biscuits! LOL. Looks really good, btw, send me a bowl! You could probably lift some of those out of the pot, but look on the bright side, you could make curried lentil soup. :D To have that many lentils fall into the pot, that must have been a huge bag of lentils you were using! Hugs to you, glad to see you have moved on from the faux pas!

Would you like a little bit of curry with those lentils.

To balance this out for your hubby you are going to have to do that dish on a commercial scale maybe with an extra ten kilos of beef and a lot of freezer bags.

You never know you might still be eating curried beef next summer if you do that.

Then again eating that amount of lentils may well put you off them for life which will ultimately be for your husbands pleasure.

Lovely story - this is the kind of material you could do stand up comedy with.

One of the funniest blogs I have ever read in spark people.

Well done.

Cheers

LOL LOL I guess your guilt on your covert activities just opened the bottom of the bag for you hon.

P.S. You didn't get all the lentils off the flooring. Trust me on this. LOL

Love it! I'll be laughing about this all day long.

Oh what a tangled web we weave, when once we practice to deceive, the lentils spill, like orange snow, so your hubby is bound to know! emoticon
