Blog Challenge- Day 5 (plus recipe for brownies)

Monday, November 04, 2013

5. What demotivates you and takes you off your fitness and health goals?

Weather extremes push me off task from my fitness goals. Too hot or too cold and I have a battle on my hands to convince myself to get out and move. Family is what drags me off task with nutrition. Our family gatherings always revolve around food. It is usually pretty healthy, but the quantity is excessive occasionally.

The recipe for the black bean brownies is pretty simple. 1 cup black beans (3/4 cup black beans, 1/4 cup liquid), 3/4 cup sugar, tsp vanilla, one dark chocolate bar melted (70% cocoa), 3 eggs. Put everything in the blender. Grease the pan. Bake at 350 for 35-45 minutes, or test with a fork (fork should come out mostly clean... not completely). Similar in carbs to regular brownies, but higher in protein and fiber, and lower in calories. (Way lower!)

I have mostly been in size 14 (or higher) and I realize that it comes from eating large portions of food and too much fat and sugar. And I do that when I get anxious, bored, too hungry or sick. So I know what sends my weight up. Also I hate exercising. There is no getting around that attitude but I am treating it like brushing your teeth. Not a fun thing, but a necessary activity. If I go for too many days without some exercise, I find myself snacking too much.

Excessive food = excessive love. At least with my family. But sometimes family love can be destructive when they force food on you. I think you have done a pretty good job of shifting your family's eating patterns, too. When you talk about the food you share with your folks, it is always so wholesome and nutritious.

Of course, there are all those other times when you don't tell us what you and Mother are cooking up in the kitchen.

And thanks for the brownie recipe. I have time on my hands. I know what I'm making tomorrow.
