Review: ViniYoga dvd for Low Back, Sacrum and Hips

Monday, November 04, 2013

Since I have soooo much to do today, but I decided to put my health first.
I've been waiting for these dvds to arrive and am soooo excited!

****************************
*************
ViniYogaTherapy for Low Back, Sacrum and Hips with
Gary Kraftsow, Founder, American Viniyoga Institute.

From the top menu, there are 4 chapters:
** Understanding Back pain by Gary Kraftsow:
This feature is a 22 minute lecture addressing these topics:
Understanding Back Pain
Types of Pain
Causes of Pain
Understanding Biomechanics
Specific Goals for Yoga Therapy

** Special Features
(too many to list including the practices on MP3)

** Technique Workshop
An 11 minute lecture on the Principles of Yoga
with detailed explanations of each of posture
(31 minutes, or by individual posture)

** Therapeutic Practices
Guidelines for Practice (4 minutes)

- Practice 1: Low Back Therapy (23 minutes)
A focused practice to rehabilitate and strengthen the low back and sacrum.

- Practice 2: Hip Therapy (31 Minutes)
A focused practice to stretch, align and balance the hips.

- Practice 3: Strength and Stability (32 min)
A stronger practice or sustained low back, sacrum and hip health.

- Therapeutic Review Explained.
(This helpful feature is available at the beginning of each posture
and links back to detailed explanation for each individual posture.)

----------------------------
-----------------------------

Today I did the first practice for the low back, sacrum and hips.
These are unlike any yoga class I've ever attended.
They are not fast paced or high intensity.
They are therapeutic with great instructions on how to
execute each posture properly - which I REALLY like
because I've done it wrong and hurt myself too often!
One practice builds and prepares for the next.

I started out with the explanation lecture and thought it
was excellent and learned a whole lot from the visuals.
In it Gary Kraftsow explains that this is something basic
that will benefit as much as brushing and flossing our teeth
on a daily basis.
And I believe it.

These dvds are available on a number of places.
I bought the set of 2 (upper back & lower back) from Amazon
for considerably less plus free shipping available.

Although not (yet) partnered with SparkPeople, I have suggested it
and hope eventually it will happen as, IMHO, it would be a great benefit
for those of us with aches and pains, stiffness, limited mobility, etc.
to help us get moving again without the setbacks associated with
'normal' routine yoga or exercise programs.

If you have any questions that I can answer, I'll do my best.

Looking forward to doing the Upper Back, Neck & Shoulders dvd tomorrow.

Sometimes I get so mad emoticon at SP! When I subscribe to get an e-mail every time one of my Spark Friends does a Blog entry I cannot figure out why there are problems with them falling off my grid! I used to think it was because I didn't add a comment. Now I always add a supportive comment to every one of my friend's Blogs and it STILL happens!

Sorry, Cathy, that I haven't been around for you emoticon I knew there was a problem when I started to wonder why you had been so quiet so I came looking for you. Wha-la I was right. It wasn't you. It was this SP program - again.

You know I love Yoga! Sometimes I go to a Yoga class where we hold the position for 5-8 minutes in order for the muscles to release. Is this DVD like that?

I know that Yoga is all about "opening" the joints (what ever that means"), stretching the muscles, and breathing, but my hip range of motion is so limited right now that I'm really having problems with some of the positions.

I would love to hear more about these videos as you continue to do them. Might be just the thing for my husband and his tight lower back muscle.
