No none of that but a full, crazy weekend nonetheless.... wake and funeral and birthday party and family squabble and 5K oh my!
As sad as losing my aunt was, it was great catching up with cousins I haven't seen in a while. Had a few laughs after tears at the wake. The funeral was the usual awful. It's tough to watch big, tough men cry! I tend to absorb other people's pain so I was quite drained by the time we finished the luncheon.
But it was off to the combined birthday party of two nieces. Everybody is growing up so fast. The usual family squabble broke out. I was drained and had a pounding headache so I said my goodbyes.
Today was the Hot Chocolate 5K and probably the race I was least prepared for all year. At 10pm, I started packing my bag but didn't finish. I looked up city parking garages but I was so overtired that the maps looked blurry so I just went to bed.
I left a few minutes later than I wanted to this morning and headed into the city, headache still pounding. As I got close, all of the left turn lanes off Lake Shore Drive were already closed off. ARGH! I am SO not a city driver, navigating is not my thing but I made it in plenty of time to meet my daughter and walk forever to the gear check.
The sweatshirt they gave us in our goodie bag kept us nice and warm on this crisp fall morning. I had bought new running pants last week and they were OUTSTANDING!
We got stuck way back in the crowd and ended up in the middle of walkers and slow runners today was not a day for a PR. I needed to take it easy anyway with my heel issue so I just enjoyed the run.
With a half mile to go, I was going at a good clip and came up behind four women walking, shoulder to shouder, nowhere on the left or right of them to go. I heard someone behind me say "Just run through", I called out my apologies and ran through them, (no worries, I didn't knock into any of them, there was room between two of them, I'm just timid) then I started hopping up and down the curb to get around other walkers, I felt awesome and light and powerful.
Then an incline. SERIOUSLY?! NOW?!
Not sure about my time yet but MapMyFitness app showed 34 minutes. We'll see what the official time says when it's posted.
Afterward, chocolate nirvana! The air was sweet and luscious with the smell of chocolate wafting everywhere! We received a large mug with compartments filled with a banana, a marshmallow, rice crispy treat, a small cup of hot chocolate and mini pretzels. Oh yeah and a compartment of liquid chocolate glory! Hear the angels sing.
My daughter and I then walked a couple miles or so to the health club she works at. The pool and hot tub were under renovation but I got to use the shower and locker room which was stocked with all shower essentials! I laughed that it's the first time I could say the sentence......"I'm just going to shower and change at the club."
Then we walked to Panera where I tried their Breakfast Power Sandwich which was good... ham and egg on whole grain bread I believe it was. We had a nice walk back to the parking garage I had parked at.
I got to the floor I had parked on and THERE WAS NOBODY IN SIGHT. There were still a few cars but not one single person in sight. I am a HUGE chicken and immediately flashed back to the movie Candyman I saw 20 years ago. There was a parking garage scene that scared the crap out of me.
I talked DH's ear off about what a great day it was when I got home, made a cup of tea, iced my heel and started to doze as I read my book.
So this weekend... it was the best of times, it was the worse of times!
I hope everyone had a best of times weekend. Hmmmm, I hear a song....
