Creating New Traditions

Saturday, November 02, 2013

I'm building my lifestyle of healthy habits, behaviors, traditions, and customs........day by day!
Today I decided that I would start some customs.

I'll have a beautiful seasonal wreath by the main entrance to our home. Lucky for me that
Wal-mart marked down to half-price their fall wreaths the day after Halloween. I purchased
a beautiful fall wreath that will look good 'til Thanksgiving. It replaces the Halloween wreath that had been there. I have a new Christmas wreath that I bought during the after Christmas sale last year tucked away in the basement and that will go up next.

I'll have a seasonally scented candle or melt. Right now there's a "harvest wreath" scented melt making my kitchen fragrant and a candle burning here with me in the living room.

On November 1st I finish the annual payroll where I work (fiscal year ends 10/31). It's a lot of pressure for me and always a relief to be done for that fiscal year. Since I don't get much recognition, I am going to buy myself something to recognize my efforts and celebrate finishing that task for the year. This year I am going to order a mug with a work-related logo. BTW, I have decided to try to continue at this part-time job, but I am going to make my best effort to contain the work to just the scheduled hours.

I've decided that each fall I will have a craft project that I will work on. This year I am knitting
hot pads for Christmas gifts for my friends.

I'm going to have a tradition of a summer "sport" (walking 5k's) and a winter "sport".
This winter I'm going to dust off the cross-country skis and see how that works.
And I plan to continue with walking with Leslie Sansone DVD's on a regular basis as
a basic cardio activity.

I'd like to always be planning a trip. I had always hoped that I'd be able to return to Denmark. I thought the airfare would be too expensive, but it is not quite as bad as I thought.
So, I haven't given that up (this is where that part-time job comes in handy). I am getting my materials together. A real step I can take is to renew my passport. My goal to do this is the end of November.

I've recommitted to line dancing and dancing in general. I am going to work on a plan for this.
There is something important that is going to happen here. I can feel it about ready to be come evident and the plan to make itself manifest.

11/5/2013 Added for my own records that kayaking will also be a summer sport.

Lovely idea to create your own traditions, and to recognize yourself for completing a major work task.
I do have the 99 Cent Store and Dollar Tree here, where I lived in the South Dollar General was around everywhere. I do prefer Dollar Tree much better selection and not as much junky food. I wanted to check the bargain stores to get a block of soap to make my own body wash since I find the washes at Target/Wal-Mart overpriced and full of sulfates, trying to reduce the poisons! emoticon

I love creating traditions...especially healthy ones...your seasonally wreaths are a great start...yesterday I made applesauce which filled the whole house with spicy aromas...great when you walk in from the cold. Thank you...your blog reminded me of that!
