I am thankful...

Saturday, November 02, 2013

Yesterday my hubby and I flew from Oregon directly to L.A. early in the morning. Our fight arrived just before 9 AM, we picked up our luggage and took a shuttle to the rental car building. Everything went smoothly and we were excited to drive to Disneyland for the day and then to our final destination, Huntington Beach. It was while we were at Disneyland, we found out about a tragic shooting at LAX that occurred around 9:30 AM. The worst thing is one person was killed and 6 injured. The tragedy also closed down the entire airport, including buses/shuttles. I am thankful our gate was not in the same terminal where the shooting occurred and we missed all the chaos at the airport by 30 minutes. I am thankful we were able to enjoy our day at Disneyland away from media coverage. Now that I am settled into the hotel and have had a good night's sleep, I realize how selfish it sounds to be thankful for a day free of inconvenience and at an amusement park when there are families grieving over the loss/harm of loved ones and all those whose plans were delayed due to the closing of the airport. I am thankful, but I also know it is only by the grace of God that we were not part of that event yesterday. We didn't do anything to prevent it, it was just a blessing that we were able to go about our plans without interruption. I am thankful for how our day turned out, but I know had we been involved with what happened yesterday, God would have given us the strength needed in the moment. I pray that those who were affected will have that strength, too.

I am so thankful that you are safe! and that you were able to enjoy your vacation. We never know when tragedy will strike, or who will be struck. My heart aches for those who were injured and for the family of the victim(s).

I am thankful you and your family were and are out of harms way. This is a fine blog that reminds us all how fragile our lives can be and how fortunate we are so much of the time. Take care and I will join hands and prayers with you today.
