I woke up this morning to my alarm for boot camp.....however as I stood in front of my window looking at the heavily bruised color sky, I wondered whether we would get it done before the rain started once again. Still, since I had had no cancellation from Ricco, I took that as a positive and dressed.
I arrived at the botanical gardens with the rain threatening and occasionally big drops would plop on my windscreen, but the bulk was still holding.
I climbed out my car, picked up my water bottle, exercise mat, dumb bells, locked my car and took 10 steps of the +-200m walk to the gazebo when suddenly without any further warning, the sky unzipped and released ALL its contents, and soaking me to the skin. This is the rout I walked this morning, but obviously taken after the rain abated somewhat. As I ran down this path, the foliage was hanging heavily into the pathway wetting me even more, if that was possible. What does it matter when you are part duck anyway?
The good news was that 3 other crazy ladies turned up also...soaking wet, as well as Ricco. He asked how we felt about working out in the wet conditions, and well, since we were there, we chose to stay. He seemed pleased.
The girls pulled a classic joke on me. We were standing listening (above the drone of the rain on the roof) to Ricco explaining that he would partner one of us ladies, and was looking for a volunteer. Well now, you know I have hearing problems, dont you?
The next thing I saw was Ricco laughing because the 2 ladies stepped back, leaving me standing as Ricco's partner.
So, whats the big deal who I partner? I subsequently found out.
OH MY GOODNESS GRACIOUS ME.....he drilled me!!!!!!
We did some push/pull exercises and he didn't give me an inch. I had to work so jolly hard for every push/pull I did. It was like pushing and pulling a brick wall. We also did some exercise where you put your feet together facing each other, and then slowwwwly lean back till you are in a seated position. Here was our problem you see, he is sooo much lighter than me, which meant he was practically lying on his back lol for our weights to be equal...THAT....meant the work was on me not to drop him. Also, when we stood up again, the work was again on me not to make any sudden movements till he was erect or he would end up on his head or but or maybe even both of us. I can tell you this, my arms are pretty aching as I type this. It did however make me realize how much more my body can take without me dying. I am happy though, that there is no boot camp till Monday
I DO KNOW NOW, that anytime there are 3 of us.....runnnnnnn from the trainer.
On my way home, I managed to take these photo's of the streets and how bad they look.
Hubby took me back to the gardens after I had cleaned up, to see how much water was still lying around. This is what we found. At this point the rain had stopped for about 30 minutes.
Water was pooled and dammed up everywhere.
These were the least "hit" areas and even they were pretty wet and mucky.
Even the grass was totally water logged and squishy to walk on.
The wind must have been pretty crazy last night, because 2 trees were down. I heard NOTHING, but then I do sleep well generally. Nature sounds, dont wake me...crying kids, wood sawing humans, but not nature. These are two giant trees, so as I said, it must have been bad.
This is the tree that got struck by lightening. Whats left of the tree at any rate.
After running around checking on the rain damage, hubby took me to Beyond Flavor, his newest BEST PLACE and we had their Friday specialty...coffee and a cinnabun. My word, this decadent bun was to die for. She had plain ones, chocolate ones and the one we chose a pecan nut one. No words to describe this incredible edible treat. Guess Ricco was right to "punish" me after all.
My poor family are moving in this weather. After years of living with me, they are finally able to move onto something with more room. I'm happy and sad at the same time. Ultimately, I am really happy for them, that things are going better. So I will suck it up and be a big girl about this move. Tonight we will be going over for some wine and a sausage roll barbecue to initiate their new place.
When all's said and done, I'm glad I went to boot camp after all, despite how tired I am right now.
