OMAT: The November Challenge

Thursday, October 31, 2013

Okay, last month I defeated the tracking challenge. I tracked ALL my food EVERY day for a full month. And now I am going to KEEP MOVING FORWARD one day at a time and one MONTH at a time (OMAT).

They say it takes at least 3 weeks to establish a new habit - a good one or a bad one - so challenging myself to do something for a full month will help me create new habits. Figuring out what new healthy habits I need to create in order to accomplish my weight loss and fitness goals is actually pretty easy. There is so much information on the SP website, including a ton of research, that all I have to do is listen to what they are telling me about the secrets to success. The other important ingredient is knowing what I'm not good at yet. I know that I USED TO BE not very good with tracking. So, that was the first challenge to conquer. Next, I have to choose something that I know I need to improve AND that I know is a reachable goal. I need to set myself up for success, not for failure. Having unreasonable and unreachable goals is just a recipe for disaster and discouragement.

Okay, what's next you ask? Better food choices. Yup, those dang veggies - and fruits, too. I know I need to eat more veggies, and now that I don't have the horrible stomach problems I used to have (now that I've been gluten free for a year and a half!), I can actually eat more veggies without getting so sick. So, how am I going to do this?? Okay, here's my plan:

1. Track ALL my food EVERY day. (MUST continue newly established awesomely good habit from October challenge.)

2. EAT AT LEAST 5 SERVINGS OF FRUIT AND VEGGIES EVERY DAY. (Oh, yeah. And TRACK it!)

Ah, see there? I've got my little caveat - my "I can do this" factor. It says "FRUITS" and veggies. I do pretty well with eating fresh fruit now but I need to add more veggies. Including both fruits and veggies, like it says on the SP website, will help set me up for success. I CAN do this!! I will try to make sure I have at least two veggies in that group, but I'm not locking myself into that. I know me. I know that there may be days when my stomach will need time to adjust to the new foods and I have to allow for that.

Okay, here we go......................Novemb
er OMAT Self-Challenge starts tomorrow!!

I CAN do this! And I WILL!! :-)

ONWARD!!

HA HA SMD!! Knowing me, I'm sure I did NOT make that basket. Plus, you see it was a soccer ball (flat - no air) that we were using....... lol.....

Thanks for your note and encouragement!

I'm all good with tracking exercise. That one's easy. It's that whole food thang.......... ;-)

Way to go on the tracking. But watch out! tracking your food may just lead to tracking your exercise. So here's my question: did you make the basket?
