Looking Back: The October Defeat

Well hello there Spark Friends!

I can't believe that I actually did it. I tracked ALL of my food EVERY day for the whole month of October!! Wait - scratch that. What I really can't believe is how relatively EASY it was to accomplish that! I did it! I defeated the challenge!! I mastered the tracking obstacle! One day a time (ODAT), and now, one MONTH at a time OMAT).

Tracking all your food is probably easy for some people out there. For me, it WAS a very difficult thing to do. (Not anymore!) Some people have a heck of a time exercising regularly. That is an easy one for me. So, we all have our challenges and areas with which we struggle. Mine has been tracking, but I beat it on October 31, 2013.

How did this all happen?

Well, one day in late September I read a Spark People post about someone planning to complete a challenge for a month. This isn't anything new. There are always people completing amazing challenges every day and every month. It must have just hit me at the right time because then and there I knew what I was going to do to finally tackle the tracking challenge. A month seemed like a long time, but I was ready - finally.

I committed to tracking all my food every day for one full month.

It sounded overwhelming and I doubted that I could really do it. It wasn't about staying within my calorie range (since I knew I was definitely NOT ready for that). The first thing I had to do was actually track everything. I know that tracking makes me more aware of my food intake and thereby helps me stay closer to my range. (My sneaky little way of tricking myself into eating better!)

Okay, so what next? I announced it! Yup. Make it public and be accountable. Know what happened next?? Somebody jumped in the challenge with me!!! I was so excited and surprised to see MOMJULIEC jump on board with me. I didn't even ask or suggest. She just took the initiative and did it!! I can't tell you how much that helped motivate me throughout the month. We encouraged each other and emailed and checked in at least once a day. It was SO GREAT!!! Thank you MOMJULIEC for jumping on board and helping me accomplish my goal!! YOU ROCK!!


And now, what's next? Well, I know they say it takes about 3 weeks to establish a habit - good or bad (which is why I knew I had to do the challenge EVERY day for at least three weeks; a month was a nice, neat time block). So, now that I have established the habit of tracking everything every day, I am going to tackle another challenge and CRUSH IT!! :-) Hmmmmm, what to do, what to do........

I actually decided about a week ago what I was going to do. So, now I'm going to post that in my next blog so I can announce it, embrace it, and DO IT!

ONWARD! Remember........just KEEP MOVING FORWARD!
