Week 6 of Maintenance

Thursday, October 31, 2013

This is Carolyn, checking in for the end of 5 Weeks on Maintenance!

So this past week has been crazy! First off, I got sick last Friday. I felt the sore throat coming, and it really blew up on Saturday/Sunday with the coughing and runny nose. But really, it's been an OK cold. Yes, a bit miserable, but since I haven't been sick since January, I'm OK with it. I just am SO HAPPY to be so healthy, to have gone so long without getting sick, and to be feeling so much better so relatively quickly.

I ran my second 5K on Saturday. My time was slower than last time (36:01), but my running partner and I ran with a baby stroller, so I'm sure that affected our time. Honestly, I couldn't feel better. It was a completely different course, there were TONS of people in costume (I was SO JEALOUS and wished I had dressed up), and even though I was sick, I ran better than my 1st 5K. I only had to rest like 3 or 4 times (compared to the 6+ times the 1st 5K), and some of those were for my friend, pushing the baby stroller.

A friend on Facebook invited me to a Jingle Bell Run in December and I signed up for that. My running partner suggested a Thanksgiving morning run, and I'm considering that. I love how my schedule is filling up with running events!

The only problem this week has been my lack of exercise. Monday I stayed home from work, I was so sick, so I didn't exercise. Tuesday, I did spin, but Wednesday I went to an event at the science museum instead of running.

I've also had a case of the munchies this past. Fortunately, I am NOT eating Halloween candy mindlessly but am trying to make healthy choices that are filling (like soup or carrots and hummus, etc.). I wonder if this has to do with being sick or just the weather or being sedentary. I'd be lying if I said that I wasn't worried about gaining (when I weighed myself yesterday, I was up to 160), but I am trying to keep that panic-mode DOWN and remind myself of my healthy habits.

Tonight is Halloween, and I have plans to go out with friends. Even though I am technically out of transition and onto Maintenance, I still eat some Medifast meals (I have a bunch, might as well use them!) and will be watching what I eat and drink tonight. That said, I will also do my best to indulge responsibly, to enjoy whatever I happen to eat and to remind myself that it's not the number on the scale alone.

Happy Halloween! Make sure to do something fun today :)

Colds are a part of life -- not a fun part, to be sure.
Happy Halloween! Enjoy what you eat and find a balance.

    Congratulations on your upcoming runs!

    Great job on the 5K!!

I had a cold at the beginning of this week, and it really made me want to eat carbs. So I am sure that's got something to do with your munchies.

Wow, you're like a professional runner now! I'm still trying to get the energy to finish week 4 of C25K. That cold knocked me off my rhythm. Happy Halloween!!

Great job on the 5k!!! I hope you're feeling better!!! I'm almost at maintenance and I know it'll be a struggle at first b/c you're trying to figure out exactly how many calories your body needs and stuff so don't be hard on yourself. Glad to hear you're not in panic mode :) And enjoy yourself tonight!!!
