I am so flattered!

Today we had our monthly staff meeting. Unlike any where else that I have worked, our staff meetings include everyone from housekeeping to the medical director and CEO. Unlike anywhere else that I have worked, everyone has equal say and input. The idea is that everyone in the cancer center is there for the patient and if we take care of our employees, they will take care of the patients. It works. Well. This is the most low key and comfortable place that I have ever worked and with the high emotional level that the hands-on staff are subject to, that in itself is amazing. But back to today...
As you know, I have been working here for almost a year now. I have been able to make connections with the media and other organizations and have done some fund-raising which is outside of the scope of my contractual agreement. I believe in the center, which is privately owned, is funded only by reimbursements from insurance companies (and you know how that works!
) and donations. In spite of that the center is in the black and in 5 years paid off the building which was completed 6 years ago.
Today, in staff meeting, our medical director said, "I just want to acknowledge that the cancer center is getting a lot of media and attention from the other medical centers due to the hard work that Jaynee has been doing in the community."
I learned that Randy, the Medical director, is the one who took the initiative on the Smoke Out. I knew that he had selected me to run it.
I have been wondering what is going on behind the scenes because I have been kind of the 'face' of the center for a few months, including doing most of the media contacts. Now I am thinking they may be considering a Public Relations position and may be grooming me for it.
I don't know... it could be nothing, but it *feels* like something is brewing... Meanwhile, I continue with what I am doing. Loving my job. Loving the people that I work with and the people I am serving...
