Well, I looked into the Macrobiotic program years ago and got good results, but I could not stay with it, since it is grain-based; and eventually I learned that my O blood-type requires very few grains. Finally, I got back to it, though, looking into the basics found in a book, You Are All Sanpaku-- a book written for and translated for Americans.
There are a few beans that can be included in this program, as well as some types of fish, and naturally-raised turkey! So, I am using the beans more than the rice, though the handful of raw, brown rice eaten slowly in the morning (I chop it in a blender first since my teeth are so bad--I think that's from chronic magnesium deficiency, which I am correction.). Aduki (adzuki?) beans are recommended. Garbanzos help, but are not as "yang" as the aduki. Well, black-eyed peas are in the same family as aduki's and can cross-pollinate with them, as can the yard-long bean--which usually is eaten in the green pod stage and that could leave it quite "yin".
Anyway, I do use some brown rice--avoiding the arsenic-laden, Texas-grown unless it is organically raised. I think the Zeolyte volcanic minerals clear-up the heavy metals in so many soils. I am going to take 15 days to be utterly careful to eat in the "yang" side of foods. Since this includes the Fall-available carrots, pumpkins, apples, and onions, I am in good shape. I think I'll get a good, natural vit/mineral mix and since I've had sinus problems, and some extra beta carotien and Vit C. The Vit C is definitely yin, the book even claiming that it can encourag4e catarac formation in eyes, but I know that infections use it up.
I ate just brown rice, some sea salt, and nori seaweed for several month, years ago, and survived a stupid divorce. I just ate and slept, mostly--took a few, short walks each week. Re-reading the book, I will add toasted tahini and real, fermented soy sauce, though most fermented foods are yin.
All I know is that the yin/yang principle has been studied-out and used for thousands of years. The fact that they still use it means it helps a lot of people. It has helped me before and helped me again, just using it 3 days--until the gain got to my gut. I'll try the beans and go from there.
