Getting back to old "new" habits

Now that it's getting colder outside I'm remembering how difficult it was for me that first winter on SP. Trying to get in 8+ glasses of water (it's easy when it's hot outside), having to change my breakfasts (cold cereal with fruit) and my lunches (sandwich, salad, fruit). I made these changes: drank 16 oz of water with each meal and snack; made oatmeal or English muffin & egg plus fruit for breakfast; and lunches were comforting soups (with lots of veggies) plus fruit.

It's time to get back to those old "new" habits for me to stay on track this winter. Because I have adapted to moderation for everything and portion control the holidays no longer "scare" me. I hope to embrace my healthy eating habits and make sure I spend more time with family and friends not just eating with them. There is always someone to share a dessert with :) Now that DH is on board with getting healthier and doing a great job I might add.....his almost too tight winter jacket is loose on him this year. I think he will be in on sharing those desserts.

For those of you following my niece Laurie's cancer story: she had a good week. Learning how to eat 5-6 mini healthy meals. She had her staples (42) out yesterday without too much pain. They discussed her options for her chemo treatments which will start in a few more weeks as they want her small intestine to heal a bit more. She is staying strong and positive.

    I know what you mean about the water. Boy I have been struggling with that one lately. But I did buy some flavored water, have upped the intake a tad. Good that you remember all those old habits to make use of them for new ones. Good news, glad to hear Laurie had a good week. emoticon emoticon

    So glad to hear that things are going well for your niece. I will continue to pray for her!
    Thanks so much for stopping by my blog from Greece. I am trying hard to eat well, not that they don't eat well, they just eat a lot! I am getting many miles of walking each day in addition to many many flights of steps or climbing in different ruins so I hope it will all come out even in the end. If it doesn't well, then I will just hop right back on track when I get home, in the mean time, I am just going to enjoy in moderation. My husband and I pretty much split breakfast and then have a good lunch and a lighter dinner, it is great food. I love so much of what they cook here. And of course, the wine and ouzo are good too!
    I am having an awesome time and think of all my spark friends as I see and experience different things!

    Those "old" new habits will keep you on track. It is good that your DH is on board with you. It does make it a lot easier when you don't have someone eating in front of you or offering you food. I am glad that your niece is doing well. She has a tough road ahead of her and we will all continue to pray. Happy Halloween.

    Those "new" habits are great. Why do we wander away from them?? Congratulations on how well you and your DH are doing and planning for the upcoming holidays.

    You are doing very well. It takes awhile to get use to a lifestyle change, but after awhile, the new habits become old habits. I am happy to hear that Laurie is doing well.

    Such a positive, blog, my friend. I know you will do great with those old "new" habits. Your attitude is wonderful! Also, so glad that Laurie is slowly healing and is on the path to recovery. 42!     sounds like our house. So glad DH is on board with

    Prayers for your niece!! Good to see that you and your husband have a plan to winter with "moderation." You might check out The Plan team (you can find the icon on my page) for a little bit of a different take on healthy eating. For the adventurous in search of highly nutritious food!!
