For years, I have been sleeping with white noise. For a while it was a fan I turned on every night before going to bed. Recently, I switched to using an app on my smart phone. I decided that the smart phone would be the best tool I could use to help me wean myself off of using the white noise.
When I first started using the app, I had it at the middle volume, so that when I stayed at my mother's house, the noise would actually wake her up when I opened my door at night. It was then I realized that I should really work on getting rid of the white noise. Every couple of nights, I would set the volume one tick lower, until it was at the quietest it could be before being muted. I was stuck there for a few weeks, wondering how in the world I could make it just a bit quieter before trying a silent night. Then the idea came to me: muffle it! The phone had been face down, thus allowing the speaker to be unblocked. Maybe if I kept the phone face up, I could muffle the sound, and achieve my desired goal.
Last night was the first time I did this, and it worked! I could hardly hear it, you definitely couldn't hear it outside of the room (you could hardly hear it a few feet away), and yet I still slept well! I am so excited that I have reached this point! I am going to continue doing this for a few weeks, and then try to sleep in silence! I can do it!
