Every once in awhile I think it helps to look at how far I've come. When I started this journey in May, I could walk about 2 blocks. I was having a hard time getting back to 'normal' after a respiratory infection. I made that 2 block walk several times a day at first. Before long I could slowly walk a whole mile! When I started walking on the treadmill at the gym, I could go a short distance at 2 miles per hour but would need to cut back to 1.7 mph to finish the mile. This morning I was able to sustain a 3.7 mph speed for one half mile. In fact, I could probably have gone longer. I did three miles in 56 minutes.
I've been on many 'diets' in the past and the emphasis was always on the food. What can I eat that fits the guidelines? While I do journal every day to keep my calories in check, I'm also looking at food as fuel for my body. I've been having at least 5 fruits and vegies every day for a long, long time now. I look at this journey more as getting healthier day by day than as getting slimmer day by day. I'm hoping I can continue in that mindset and that it will help me continue getting healthier no matter what the scale says. Hitting a certain 'goal weight' won't be attaining the real goal, just another step on the path.
