Day 8: Help Me, Please...

Monday, October 28, 2013

The theme for today is to tell friends and family what kind of help you need. Do I want my friends to grab "forbidden" food from me while I eat? No! Do I want friends and family reprimanding me for making poor food choices? Absolutely not! I don not like feeling belittled. I do not like being treated like a child. So those options are out. I would like encouraging comments and compliments. I don't mind people asking me how I'm getting there. I would only like "diet" advice when I ask for it, and the same goes for work-out advice. If a friend or a family member doesn't know if their comment would help or hinder, then don't say it. Sometimes silence is the best option.

Now, I will not be shy in asking my husband to keep the junk food in the garage. And, I hope to be strong enough to turn down invites to the local tavern. Really, when we go out to eat there are better options than the bar, but they are further away.

So, yet tonight, I will write my list: What to tell people is ok, and what to tell them is not. And tomorrow I will share those lists with friends and family who I come into contact with.

Now, on another note! Today I discovered a golden nugget in my exercise program. This past Spring and Summer, I have been experiencing back pain when I went on walks. This Fall I joined Planet Fitness, and have been pretty good about going. This morning I missed my gym workout, and I knew if I went right in the house after work, I would not work out at all. So, when I got home from work at about 5:30pm, I decided to go on a walk before I even went in the house. I'm really glad I did. I started my walk, and actually walked a whole mile without any back pain! I believe the Planet Fitness workouts are helping to strengthen my core, and as a result, less back pain! That is really motivation for me to stay on my program!

I can't go home after work and think that I will go back out to go to the gym. I work out in the morning, at lunch or straight from work. I'm thinking that's a secret to success--knowing what works for you realistically and what usually doesn't. Glad you enjoyed your walk--with no back pain!!!

I LOVE it when the consciousness of improvement dawns... "oh, my back didn't hurt"! As for the help from others, yeah, I'm with you. We are adults, and we need an adult kind of help... the kind that says, "good for you, you made a tough choice"... not the kind that says "thou shalt not... bad girl".

Spark on!

It's certainly frustrating...people mean well, but, just aren't very tactful.
Good for you...you're working towards a healthier you and I'm glad to hear the walk helped...
Keep up the great work!

Love the real food pic. I copied it! Proud to be a raw organic vegan!

As to asking for help from others. Sometimes we can set the rules in place and have them followed. Most of the time not. Good luck in that department.
