Acupuncture Update - I AM AMAZED!!!

Monday, October 28, 2013

For the past 5+ years, well, actually 10 years, I have had nearly constant pain in my shoulders.

First 10 years ago, my right shoulder due to a wreck where I was trapped in an overturned truck. With the help of my chiropractor and massage, the pain subsided and I got full range of movement back on the right side (though the Dr said I never would).

Then 5 years ago, a couple things happened and messed up my left shoulder. I saw so many doctors, specialists, had x-rays, tried many physical therapists - and nobody has been able to help.

With on-going treatments by my chiropractor and his massage therapist ( 70 year old Japanese man who specialized in Chinese torture), I've been able to function, but nothing has been able to fix the problem or get rid of the pain. ( I can't take drugs, not even ibuprofen.)

I'd given up hope and have learned to compensate and figured I'd have to live with it.

When I began having acupuncture about a month ago for my neck and hip, I didn't even think to mention it. But 2 weeks ago, she noticed that I didn't have full range of motion on my left side and asked about it.

That same day, she treated my left shoulder and gave me a very simple exercise. I noticed immediate improvement.

Last week, she treated it again. It was even better afterwards. (Pain is all but gone, but I can still feel a bit of tightness in the muscle/tendon, whatever it is that's been restricted for so long.)

This past week, I've been able to do stuff with my left arm that I haven't been able to for years . . . like lift a glass of water, pull the sheets over me..... stuff like that.

And then, today. . . . to work out some tension after the meeting, I spent about an hour loading brush and firewood onto our trailer at the back of the property. Woohoo!

I thought that'd be it for the day . . . but noooo.

Just as I was finishing up . . . my neighbor calls and he's bringing a load of leaves (we use them for mulch). So, I grab a rake and help him unload the leave out of his truck.

He mentions that he has a whole bunch more but his wife can't help him and he's not sure how long his back will hold out . . . and then he asked if I'd be willing to help him load his truck again. SURE! and I grabbed my rake and gloves and we took off to his house to get another load. And then we did another load, and another . . . all together FIVE LOADS!!!

Prior to 2 weeks ago, there is no way in the universe that I could have done even one load.

My body is sore and tired, but it's a good feeling. Hot tub is gonna feel good tonight!

In addition to the treatment 2 weeks ago, the acupuncturist sent me home with a set of yoga DVDs for lower back, hip and sacrum, and upper back, neck and shoulders.

I've done a lot of yoga over the years but never anything like this . . . this program is therapeutic. It is basic strengthening of the core for each of the areas.

I've ordered the dvds and will do a review of them once I start using them. But I already know, this is just the beginning of a very good thing!

I am so so happy that you are feeling better. I have not tried acupuncture for my fibro but have tried everything issue is finances. It is expensive here to have acupuncture done and I have no extra since I am on disability income.
I am amazed at all the loads you were able to do and happy that you are able to use your shoulders more!

I have tears in my eyes reading this. My mom is in chronic pain from arthritis and degenerating discs. I've been looking into acupuncture for her since oxycotin doesn't touch her pain. She's afraid of needles and won't go. I would LOVE to see this help her as it has you. I'm so happy for you!

I look forward to hearing about your yoga DVDs. I go to yoga once a week but would be interested in therapeutic yoga.

Awesome news on the acupuncture!! I am so terrified of needles that I tried it once and was so still and held my breath. they said it isn't going to work with you being that scared.
I came here to see if there were any pics of your hair as you were commenting on the long hair comment section of 50s team or whatever it is called. LOVE your hair. Mine has always been short but am trying to grow it. Was silvery till I had it dyed a whle back first time in ages and it is still this yellowy brown which I dont like. So debating getting it cut or leave it grow. Takes forever to grow. lol
Totally off subject of why else I replied. Can you tell me the name of the yoga dvds. I have bad back, knees and a bit of neck aching... fibromyalgia and arthritis. I would love to find somethign theraputic and not as hard as I used to go to yoga classes but haven' had to stop due to financial stuff as my long term disability has stopped. Oh well things could be way worse.
Thanks have a great evening!

My DH had shoulder surgery almost 2 years ago and doesn't have full ROM yet. Now the other arm/shoulder are bothering him. I'm going to suggest acupuncture. Thanks!

That's fantastic! I've tried and enjoyed acupressure, but have never tried acupuncture. I'd kind of like to try it, but am a little hesitant to get poked. Hearing your success makes me want to look into it more. Thanks for sharing and congrats!!
