I quit smoking 10 months ago. I used the patch and all was perfectly fine until the day came, two months later in early March, when I gave up the patch. My body went into rebellion mode. My immunity defenses were lowered and I got sick so bad that my nose totally plugged up and I couldn't breathe. When I did breathe, I wheezed like an old geezer. Hmm, come to think of it, at 62 I am an old geezer. (Shaking head to clear the brain.)
I went to the doctor and got the proper meds to clear that mess up. And then, two months after that mess, my legs and feet swelled so bad that it was difficult to walk. My toes looked like little piggy toes. Iím not kidding! It was embarrassing! I made an appointment with my doc but I couldnít stand it anymore. I called in and begged them to please prescribe me a water pill because I was so extremely uncomfortable. They did and it worked overnight. Of course, I was up all night peeing like a race horse but I didnít mind. I didnít have to work the next day and got back my skinny ankles.
I kept my doctorís appointment and was told that one of my blood pressure pills rebelled on me and thatís why I had such swollen legs and feet. I told doc that there was NO WAY I was going to give up the water pills he prescribed for me and he agreed. But he wanted me to continue to take that ďotherĒ pill at half dose. I did for about a week and still put up with swollen ankles before I totally trashed the pill. Doc doesnít know that yet. Shhh Ö donít tell him. Itís our little secret.
So here I am today. I continue to follow the Weight Watcher Plan and it continues to fail me. I log in everything I eat every day but I have now put on 20 pounds. I cannot fit into any of my clothes. I am thoroughly disgusted. I need to find a plan that will kick start my metabolism and get me into the weight loss mode.
I finally found it. Itís called The Dukan Diet. Itís kind of like the Atkins Diet. I have only done internet research so I donít know the whole plan yet but I do know that for the first 1 to 10 days (you pick your range based on how much weight you need to lose) you eat only protein combined with non-fat dairy products such as cottage cheese and yogurt. No veggies and no carbs. Heck, I can do that. Iím such a carnivore that I could be a werewolf!
After that you go into the second phase which adds back certain veggies. You alternate days between all protein and protein plus veggies.
I was intrigued so I ordered the diet plan book as well as the recipe book. Both arrived today. It will take me a few days to understand the program before I do another post but I can say that I am very excited to start this program.
I picked my start date to be Monday, November 4th, and my Attach Phase to last 7 days. That will give me this weekend to make a grocery list for my all protein (attack) phase and study the foods for the next phase, which will last me until I reach my goal weight.
