New Doc

Monday, October 28, 2013

I talked to the doc who did the 3 cervical epidurals on my neck. We both agreed that I needed to go to a doctor who specializes in necks and upper back. The ortho I have gone to for years is lower back or lumbar spine. This doc said he was going to text the specialist to get me in.

In the mean time, I called the secretary for my other doc and told her what the anesthesiologist said. She agreed completely as they all seem to work together. She gave me the number for the Cervical specialist. Well, apparently, he is very booked and the soonest they could get me in was November 27 with his assistant. I said ok.

The next day, I get a call from his office. They got the text from the anesth. doc and said that they could get me in next Saturday and I have my choice of times. WHOA...I guess I got some guy with clout. This appointment will be with the man himself. I took an appointment next Saturday morning.

This morning I get another call stating that he happens to have openings this Wednesday and he could get me in then. No, I have to work, but thank you. Wow, I guess you don't get the appointments without having some pull.

Cracked me up how I went from November 27 to October 30th just by one text from another doctor. Now, I am a little worried that they have looked at my MRI results again and maybe there is something I am really supposed to be worried about. Why did I move up the ladder so fast? Believe me, neck surgery is nothing I am going to rush into. I will live with the pain a lot longer before I let anyone operate on my neck! emoticon

It is always better when the doctor makes the connection for you. Good luck with your encounter on Sat. Blessings!

I think you jumped ahead because of the doctor's pull. I wouldn't worry about the reason just see him when you can. Good luck!

I think specialists have 2 tracks - one for those they consider "self-diagnosed" (people who call for an appt themselves) and one for those that are referred by other doctors. Especially if the referring doctor is another specialist those on the second track get a higher priority. Your MRI results may show a need for an earlier appointment, but the fact that your other doctor knew this new specialist well enough to text him probably didn't hurt either.

I think it is the pull of having a professional stating that you need to be seen and could they work you in please. You will be a serious patient and not just some fly-by. The MRI may have shown that you need to be seen sooner rather than later too, but probably nothing more than what you already knew you were dealing with. Wishing you the best. **HUGS**
