Well, I did it...I came in 5th...from last! Ha! Saturday's 5k was super fun.
We did a 5k for part of our school's Harvest Festival fundraisers. (And believe me, we've had a lot. It's like this every September-November round here. Bake sales, dinners, yard sales, raffles, and finally the big Harvest Festival day with games, dinner, bouncy houses, etc.) And now? A 5k was added to the mix. Our 5k coordinator did such a good job. I hope she'll do it again next year. She really rocked it.
My goal was 40 minutes. Although I've done a few races in the last couple of months, I really had no idea what my current time for a 5k was. I've been going with the boy lately so we end up walking and running (and a little piggy backing). So this time, the boy and the Walrus signed up for the fun run and I signed up for the 5k.
Before I got sick with the flu last year, I was around 39 minutes so I thought 40 was a reasonable goal. It was COLD Saturday morning but it was a nice route and a beautiful, sunny day. I made it in at 42 minutes. I believe my next race will be the Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving. We'll see if I can condense that time a bit.
On a side note, there are 5Ks EVERYwhere for EVERYthing and EVERY organization out there. Don't you love this trend? The amount of races out there seemed to have tripled this year, at least around here. I love that there's a bunch of worthwhile causes to donate to while we go out and have a healthy, good time.
I came in third in my division... but I believe there were only 3 in my division. Heheh. My friend D came in first. And I have another friend's kids who placed in the under 10 division for the 5k too. Good, good stuff.
How about the fun run? Our kids were ready and raring to go!
Especially Wonder Boy (third from right)!
He came in 1st! We're SO proud of him. He also got Star Reader Friday, it's been one big celebration this weekend with lots of singing about Star Runner and Star Reader.
But what's even better? He went back and finished with his friend who was taking a bit longer. Warmest of hearts, I tell ya.
So, that really does answer the question...ARE tigers paw-some? Why yes. Yes they are.
