Good news

Monday, October 28, 2013

So I followed all your advise and drank lots of water yesterday and ate right. I even passed up the homemade chili and cornbread that my step son made. Which I could have eaten as far as Gluten free goes but I just wanted to get the bloat off from eating out so much lately. The good news is I was down 2 pounds today to my happy 106. So that really does show you how much salt and "stuff" is in restaurant food.

I am having a great time here in Pennsylvania with the grandkids. The only thing that really bugs me is watching how addicted my granddaughter is to junk food, especially sugar. I love her so much that I don't want her to go through what I went through as a teenager and being so heavy. I so wish that back then we had the knowledge of what to do to get "off" the junk and to treat it as a drug...which is what I do now. I know that once I start eating it I can't stop. Anyway when we are in charge of the children after school and before school, I don't let them eat all the junk. I so tell them they can have something healthy and they are learning what "Nama" will let them have and the good news is that they love fruit and veggies. But my DIL buys all kinds of junk. She herself likes junk but is a runner and that helps. Funny thing too is that she just approached me as she wants to lose a little weight and was asking my advise....well I was honest and said that she had to stop eating the bags of Sunchips she eats. I told her when she eats them that there is no nutritional value in them and that she craves more and more because her body is looking to be satisfied with something good for it. So I am proud of her and she hasn't had them for like 5 days. I also told her to write down everything she ate. She liked that idea so I ordered her a little book on Amazon that is a food diary. She is using it and likes it. Now don't get me wrong...she is a tiny person and doesn't have much to lose but she doesn't want to be like her mom who is obese. Anyway it's all about food here and constant eating and eating junk. I just keep my mouth shut as I don't want to interfere. I just do what I can while I am in charge of the kids. I will be here to help my granddaughter when she or if she wants my help if she becomes a fat teenager. I know I will be able to help her not suffer like I did.

I hope you all are doing just great and had a good week end.
Jack Frost here this morning. Chilly!
Have a great day and wonderful week
Sallie

Of course junk food is way to available and cheap on the market today. You can buy more junk for the price of an apple. Once your body gets use t not eating the junk it will not want it. I keep plain Greek yogurt in my fridge for snacks and to have with fruits as a treat. Kids can have freeer treat made from fruit nd juices in the warm weather. So many healty treats went yu start looking. I lov going to our local farmers market and trying some of the uusual fruits they have vilable

Good for you trying to help the kids eat healthier! Great idea giving the daughter a food diary! Those treats sure can be addicting! That is great she is staying away from the sun chips!
Hopefully all your healthy influences will stick with her family long after you have left.
Congrats on the return to normal weight (very hard to pass up on the chili!
Keep up the fabulous work!!

It is funny that some people think of Sunchips as a healthy alternative. Air-popped popcorn for me! emoticon

We do have to walk a fine line advising the next generation (especially daughters-in-law!) about living healthy lives.
My son and DIL are around 40 and are really just now learning about nutrition themselves and trying to do right by their little ones, but- again- too much sugar and too many treats, imho.

Happy for your excellent day yesterday!

However, as for myself, weight variations from one day to the other I interpret more for hydration, and to how much food I have in my intestines. I weigh in every day, and when I see there a pound or more of difference from one day to the other, I'm sure there less water in my body.

Glad you are having a great time and well done setting a great example for your family. Your DIL asking your advice shows that she noticed what you are doing and appreciates your input... with a little help the kids may eat better over time as well :) If there is less junk in the house they'll eat less.

Glad you're enjoying your time with your grandkids! You are setting a good example for your family, hopefully your DIL will realize the old adage.. "junk in junk out" doesn't begin and end with adults.

Have a blessed day!

I go through the same thing with my son - he's 26 and eats hardly any green vegetables at all, even when I make them for dinner!

Even Sunchips? Say it isn't so... emoticon Well, I wish someone had the guts to say 'stop eating the junk' to me before I spent my teenage years fat. Good on you.
