I decided that the news warranted a double post this week on my part.
I started my healthier lifestyle just 24 days ago and with a week off in the middle, have lost a few pounds. I am so busy working on building a house and then working nightshift on weekends that I have found it difficult to make it.
I did learn something, though. Last night in the ER while I sat chatting with my favorite ER Dr, I mentioned my feeling nauseous with eating. He asked about what exactly I was eating... and he told me that I was eating too much protein. I know I have been nearing my upper limits most days and at the lower limits of my carbs - though I promise I am not attempting a low carb and high protein diet!
So, in order to balance myself I decreased my chicken intake from 12-16 ounces a day to 6-9 ounces a day. Today is the first time I have tried this... and awesome! I was able to eat the entire cup of spaghetti squash and my 5 ounces of chicken AND 1 cup of zucchini Parmesan before I started feeling full. I didn't even feel sick to my tummy, either. I was just... full. So my Dr. got a few brownie points there!
Also, my headaches have finally went away. I went home and soaked my head in a hot shower and took some allergy meds and it disappeared. I still have pains when something loud sounds near me. Stupid allergies!
I have also added into my diet some Tangerines! I found the CUTEST little clementines at Wal-mart called Kiddo Clementines. They are about 40g a piece with the peel and the size of a baby's fist. I can snack on those to help with keeping my blood sugar stable when in the ER working.
Also... the big news...
I am joining the Wellness program at work! I had previously thought that it was only for full-time employees but recently learned that it is for PRNs, too! I go November 7 or 8 to get bloodwork done and to set my goals and then September 2014 I go back to see my progress. If I have met even one of my goals I set... I get 8 hours of my base hourly rate! How the heck can I say no to $200? Just for getting healthy and doing what I was planning on, anyways!!!
