Peaceful Easy Feeling

Saturday, October 26, 2013

For years, I lived in a life where daily pressures, stresses, influences and expectations of others, pushed me into a space that was not me. Often I felt like a frog in a blender.

When I signed up with SparkPeople last year, I was thrilled to see the importance placed on self-care . . . it was a new concept for me . . . but I liked it.

Not only did I begin focusing on my food and activities, I began sorting out the mental trash, stuff that hadn't been processed, filed or tossed. Some of that earlier programming was hard to shed but once I realized those things were not who I am or want to be, I moved them from the 'too hard basket' and put them in the 'discard' box.

Several times that 'discard' box has been emptied (on the burn pile or in the woodstove).

Shedding the pounds and shedding the baggage has left me with a peaceful easy feeling.

Sometimes I think we get so focused on losing weight that we neglect the other things in our lives (baggage) that might be holding us back.

Take time to enjoy the journey.

Wonderful message - I hope I'm able to divest myself of "work" mentality in January when I retire. I've been stressed for too long. Sounds as though you've come a long way and have learned a lot about taking care of yourself!!

As you know, it takes time to empty that baggage. I was just doing that last night with my DH as we rode home from a Halloween party with one of the HOG Chapters we belong to (the one closest to us; 20 minutes away). The other HOG Chapter we belong to was also having a party at the same time ( the one farthest from us; 50 minutes away). We joined both of these groups in an effort to find people who ride that we have things in common with. This is actually harder done then said. So the short story was something like this - Are any of these people our true friends? no. So why do we feel a need to attach ourselves to them emotionally? That is the garbage I need to sift through. Thanks for getting me started emoticon

Love the Vonnegut quote. Like you, I've found a place where I am relaxed (well, mostly) and content. It's a great feeling, and I'd never want to go back to my old stressful life.
