New Personal Distance Record!

Saturday, October 26, 2013

I ran 15.05 miles this morning, my longest run to date. My previous record was 14.3 in November 2012. It felt good. I don't think it challenged my cardio even once, but I felt it in my glutes. I ran the fastest mile by myself, the last one; my group ran 14 but I wanted more. We had originally been scheduled to run 15 but the group decided on 14, so I just took on being a bit independent. My Garmin rewarded me by lighting up the Distance Personal Record, so that was exciting!

We ran it in 3 hours and 26 minutes for an average pace of 13 minutes and 40-something seconds per mile. It was a hilly course, but great weather. We started at 5 am and 59 degrees. Saw a gorgeous sunrise with lots of pink, gold and blue. I want to run the Lakeland Half Marathon in 2:30, which requires a much faster 11 minute 24 second pace. Not sure I can do it, but it won't hurt to try.

My weight was at 124.4 at 4am. Pretty soon I'm just going to blog my weekly average and begin the process of being less obsessed with the scale. I am getting more and more confident that I can maintain an average of 126.

Life is good! Spark On!!

Great job! I've got an older garmin and it doesn't light up but I know when I've run my longest distance. Longer runs will make you go faster as it makes your body more efficient. My marathon training has made me alot faster so far.

Excellent that you did your longeste ever training run. A 2:30 goal is a good one for you. The taper week and extra food you eat before the race will help you run fast. Plus the bonus energy we all seem to get when racing in a group.

You can do it, but you need to be "smart" about preparing for the race. First, you run your fastest when you are totally rested and recovered. Don't sacrifice your PR doing fast training runs in the weeks leading up to the race. You also run your best with a full load of glycogen in your muscles. Carb load in the week leading up to the race and don't be afraid of a (temporary) upswing on the scale. Water gets stored with glycogen and you need that to be able to use it. You are much, much less likely to PR if you go into the race dehydrated.

That is a blistering fast time for 15 miles! I am so proud of you, especially that it FELT GOOD. Wow, something to dream of.

Off to take my state certification exam today. Beck books not yet here but will resume blogs when they arrive. Until then, keep showing me how maintenance is done. How wonderful that all that weight loss energy transfers to new frontiers!

Can't wait for those Florida early morning temps... the 30's just isn't my idea of a fun temperature, no matter how much my brother preaches about "no inappropriate weather, just inappropriate attire". I far prefer warm weather running!

See you next month!
