Successful return to the 5K race curcuit!

Saturday, October 26, 2013

Saturday 10/26 is a day I have been looking forward to for a few weeks now, as today was my first 5K race in several months due to my Achilles tendon injury back in June.

The results: 28:55, good for 34th place overall (out of 89 participants) and 2nd place in the men's 50-59 age group! Decided to go with a 4 minute run / 1 minute walk ratio, first time at that pace in a LONG time, and was able to stick to it except around the 27 minute mark when I snuck in a 30 second walk break.

Legs feel very good, no issues with the Achilles tendon. I'm thinking I want to run at least two more races before the year is done. The next one would be a 5K for sure, and thinking MAYBE the last one would be a 10K. We'll have to see...

Excellent job on 5K--both in time and the fact you did so well after an injury! emoticon

CONGRATULATIONS! Sounds like you had a great race. Happy for you that your Achilles tendon didn't hurt and you got an age award. Two more races this year is a great goal.

An age group finish is good, a finish without aggravating the injury is better!

I hope you find two more races that appeal to you this year, that you have fun in them, and that you come out of both injury free.
