DH left with the neighbor to go to a poultry show in MN. They
try to plan it each year. Sometimes it works out and sometimes
not. I had plans of my own so the minute I could leave the office,
I headed home to feed the dog, cat and sugar glider. Short and
sweet. There was a large transport truck in front of the house
and they were loading up some of the extra dirt. Glad to see it
I made a beeline to the garden, hoping to dig that last row of
potatoes. I had a pretty good start and then the pager went off.
Too early for the others to be home from work and one I know
was probably harvesting corn. So I answered and made it to
the station where my driver was waiting. He is a young man
the same age as our oldest son and I know him very well.
We drive to the apartment and are greeted by the home health
nurse and the nastiest odor on the planet. The man had been
sick for 2 days and was in his bed. He had a colostomy done
in June but didn't take care of it properly. The entire mattress
was soaked, soiled clothes, sheets and blankets everywhere.
This was absolutely the worst conditions I have seen and I
have seen plenty. Almost ranks up there with the sick man
who shared a home with 5 cats and 3 dogs and not a clean
inch of bed, floor or table.
My young man took it all in stride and between the 3 of us,
we were able to get him out of bed, onto the cot and out
of the mess. I am surprised I did not bring home any mementos
on my clothes. We made a quick trip to the hospital and it
was up to them to start an IV and clean him up from head to
toe. It was that bad and I know-TMI!
I just heard on the radio that they are transferring him to the
hospital where he had his surgery. I was asked why we didn't
take him straight there. I assured the couple that I didn't think
a 65 mile ride in the back of the ambulance with the issues he
had would have been pleasant for any of us.
By the time I came home, it was too dark to dig potatoes so that
will wait for tomorrow. Instead, I am doing the laundry so that
the hampers are empty when DH comes home. The rest of my
list can just wait.
So now I can just relaxing and planning to go to bed early. That
wasn't in the plan but I think that is how the day was to end.
I like God's plan better. A little extra rest does a body good.
Thanks for stopping by. I hope your day went as planned but
if not, maybe that is how things were supposed to work out. HUGS!
