Joined a gym today

Friday, October 25, 2013

I joined the Tri-City Court Club today. It has two pools, including one that is always available for laps. (Not just a lane or two - the entire pool!) The membership is $66 a month, which is a little stiff, but not as bad as I'd feared, and it's within my budget. Jim & I quit drinking about a month ago. We were spending $100 a month on alcohol (mostly him, though). So there's room in our budget now.

The club has several studios for group classes, a cardio equipment room, a weight room with a machines and a separate area for free weights. I'm hopeful that making this commitment will increase my likelihood of actually doing strength training.

This gym is 8 miles from my house and 8 miles from work. I'm considering riding there in the wee early hours of the morning to swim before work and then riding to work. I'd have to leave the house around 5 (yes, they're open that early), but I may try that a few times. Talk about hardcore!

I checked into our YMCA. They've closed the pool because they're not compliant with the ADA lift. I'm sure they'll change that in the future, but it's kind of a bummer.

That is fantastic. I'm stuck with the Y because its the only gym around with a pool. We're paying $90 a month so $60 is pretty good.

I'm probably better off not knowing how much we're spending on beer & wine a month.

Nice! The Tri City area has really started growing. (Wifey and I have gone to meet her family there for Thanksgiving the past few years ... lots of restaurants, stores ... and apparently great gyms too!)

The 2 pools thing....wooohooo. It is nice knowing that you can do laps when you are planning for it. There has been times when I go to swim, only to see the pool already busy and no more room for swimming laps.

And ... I say try some of the group classes too. At first I used to be intimidated. And also, I thought, not my thing. But I soon found out that I kinda like going to them. You make friends if you keep going .. and meeting others at the gym is a great motivator to go to the gym itself.

As for riding early this Fall / Winter ... you are a better one than I. (And better than Don too apparently ... heh... me and Don appear to be non-winter riders.) And ... the light does not come out until after 7am it seems.

High-5 for being hardcore! You go gym girl!

If they have strength training or body pump classes, take advantage of them. They make weights a lot more fun! emoticon

You are gonna LOVE having this resource in the cold winter, rainy days. SO many ways to mix up your workouts. My fitness center is about 10 miles from home and practically next door to where I work, so yeah, in good weather combining a bike ride to the workout is a nice perk too.

    Way to SPARK! :-)
