no excuses..

Friday, October 25, 2013

I am guilty of saying that my boyfriend was a negative influence in my weight loss/healthy lifestyle goals. It was so easy to point the finger, but I have decided that even though I was with him whenever we went out to eat he never made me choose what to eat or how much to eat- that was all me. We live about 40 minutes apart and with me not working at the moment and him barely scraping by with his retail job, we always end up at McDonalds or some other cost efficient food place when we are on the go. It's so much easier this way, when both of us can eat for less than $6. I used to order a McChicken, a hamburger, we'd share nuggets, and we'd split a fry. When we'd splurge I'd get a mcFlurry and he'd get a shake. The last two times that we have gone I have gotten a parfait and a plain McChicken. He eats a few bites of the McChicken and I toss some of the bread. In no way was he forcing me to eat what I was before, so it was my fault- completely my fault. Now that I'm making better choices and am more aware of what I'm eating, he's actually pretty supportive. Like oh, the parfait looks delicious- I'll start eating those too. And by eating a few bites of my McChicken when I ask he is cutting out even a few more calories for me! I'm hoping that as I become more aware of what I choose to eat and do, that he will slowly also start looking more into what he eats. I also used to bring him a McDonalds coffee to work and some requested hash browns if I was driving by and get myself a coffee since I was there. On the days I do go, I skip the coffee for myself and only have a nibble of his hash brown. I think that by me introducing him to the parfait, I will start getting him that instead. The days I get him the coffee he doesn't go to the gas station and get an energy drink and a big blueberry muffin - and who knows what else. If we ever move in together, I know I will cook more meals and it will be easier- but for now the steps I'm taking now towards a healthier lifestyle will only make it easier and I'll have MORE options by being healthy!! emoticon I'm so excited!!!

Sounds like you are making good progress. The hard part for me is keeping good stuff around the house for when I want to grab something quick. You can also save money and calories by meeting at a park for lunch and bringing something healthy from home. (Works much better in the summer, this cold weather makes this not such a hot idea).
    Good luck.
