Protecting my patch!

Thursday, October 24, 2013

This morning I was up early and eager to mailbox drop the neighbourhood with a flyer about our garage sale tomorrow - 60 flyers went out in total, plus we have an add in two local newspapers. We have some more organising to do this afternoon and then it should be ready to go. There is SO MUCH STUFF! We have filled my double garage - that's 6m x 6m of tables covered in items for sale and there is stuff on the ground and stuff hanging from the the garage walls and there'll be stuff out the front on the driveway as well!

I did another swoop of the house yesterday and found even more stuff to try and find room for in the garage. We have decided that what doesn't sell we will sell in bulk lots on e-bay. Between our houses we have given so much stuff to charity over the past months and years - I don't know where all the stuff is coming from!

I really enjoy it when I go on holidays and in the holiday unit there is one bowl, a few plates and glasses, one frying pan, one saucepan etc. etc. I could live there quite easily, but no I have to have one of every size and colour and shape and purpose - just in case!! But no more! I am shrinking in size and my cupboards are shrinking in belongings - it's all relevant and it's all good! I keep thinking if I were to move again what wouldn't I want to take and that helps me decide. The other rule of thumb is if I haven't used something in a year, then I don't need it and someone else probably does! I've also tricked myself a little bit this time and said to myself "put it out for sale, if it doesn't sell it's yours to keep.....". That's tough love and has worked for a few items that I absolutely don't need but for some reason am having trouble parting with. I've priced them to sell - yes we can fool ourselves into doing things sometimes!

I've also done a whole lot of research on a dog friendly deterrent to stop my dog jumping into my raised vegetable garden beds and digging them up. I've tried everything and nothing works, so this morning I have ordered a motion sensor scarecrow ...... this will scare them and water my garden at the same time - it is a sensor sprinkler and I have added a link to a u-tube video to show you how it works in case you are interested in one for yourself.

So now I just wait for it to arrive and meanwhile somehow keep the dogs away from my veggie patch!

It is very overcast and windy here today - it's trying hard to rain. Hopefully some of this rain finds itself in NSW to aid in putting out those devastating fires, My prayers go out to anyone who may be affected or know someone who is affected.

Have a good day/night everyone.

Well I'm leaving this on the day of your garage sale. I hope it's going very well. I love garage sales and estate sales, etc. I can always seem to find some small thing that I like. I am learning to not take everything home though because I really don't have the room for a bunch of stuff. emoticon

I'd probably have to first watch one of those reality shows called "Britains Biggest Hoarders" or something first to psych myself up for doing a good clean-out. You get so disgusted that you can't WAIT to get rid of a whole load of useless stuff. emoticon

Here in French, we have them in the neighbourhood in the street on trestles a few times a year. Great way to meet the neighbours, although practising your haggling and bartering skills is a little delicate when you bump into them in the baker's every day. emoticon

Hope the sun shines tomorrow for a great day for you. emoticon

Love the motion sensor scarecrow. Reminds me of my sort of water pistol I surprise Fluffy with when he's up to his tricks. emoticon

TTFN (had to google that), thanks IAM146POUNDS) for the text lingo! emoticon

Great, you're really on top of your game, with your downsizing mentality, well done! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Oops, little technical misdemeanour.

Hope your sale goes well. Don't forget "Gumtree" to sell the leftovers. We have had a lot of success there. emoticon

    Hi Habitatvitality,

I was thinking about you when I heard about those fires. They are making headline news here. Am I right in thinking that you are about 900 km away? Do you have a similar weather system to that area? My prayers are with those affected too.

You sound like you have had a really productive week, downsizing in every direction. I hope that you get a great turnout for your garage sale. I have never seen a garage sale here, we tend to go for a 'car boot sale', which tends to be held in municipal car parks.

TTFN xx. emoticon
