My husband kept his job during the government shutdown. He works for a government contractor and the contract is funded through July of next year. A man had a stroke and my husband was filling in for him. The man is due to come back to work, so I don't know what will happen the next time we go through this with the government which may occur in February.
We called a pastor we know to ask about a heater they had in a building used for fellowship. He told us it was a heat pump/air conditioner made by Mitsubishi. We don't need another heat pump. We bought an infrared heater and put it in the basement.
The Pool Boys came and closed the pool. We didn't clean it before it was closed. The guy said the algae will die in the cold and sink to the bottom. They put in chemicals, covered the pool, disconnected the fittings and we bought the pump motor inside.
I went to bed last night around two and was up and trying to sleep in the recliner by 2:36. I know that I slept, but I hurt when I awoke. I guess my time of sleeping in the bed is over. Our new couch is not comfortable for me either. I have no place I can stretch out for long, before I get aches and pains that wake me up. Then I have trouble moving until I work out the kinks. It is a vicious cycle.
My sister is having carotid artery surgery on November 8th. She is scared. Mom had it and then developed bleeding on her neck. Mom's neck turned black and blue. They had to do another operation, but I don't know what it was for, maybe a blood clot.
My sister asked me about it and I told her Mom did okay. Mom did pull through both operations, but after the carotid artery surgery, she said she couldn't breathe and they kept track of her pulse oxygen. My sister said they told her she may not be able to swallow. The medicine my sister is taking is causing her to bruise. She said a friend of hers noticed something wrong with her eye and offered to take her to the doctor.
I called the nursing home and they told me they had the check for the amount in Mom's account ready for me to pick up. They did not call me to tell me that. When we went to the Register of Wills, it was about this amount, though we had no check or anything from the nursing home, just a letter stating how much would be released. We went directly from the court house to the nursing home and told the woman in the Business Office to send it to my sister. My sister gave her mailing address to the woman and then my sister e-mailed me to tell me she had not received a check or heard anything.
I don't like that my sister has this to deal with now since she has received the surgery news. She has to set up an account and deposit the money in it and then all the creditors will get a percentage of the amount as per the court. It has to be in an account for 6 months. So my sister could have had all this done if the nursing home had been efficient, but will have to do it before the surgery now.
I am trying hard not to think about the debt ceiling battle looming ahead, but it is there and there is nothing I can do about it. I have been out of control with my eating. I turned on TV this morning and saw a program that helped me to get back on track. I marked the channel number and time on my calendar.
