I remember being a teenager and asking my Dad, a busy MD who was always between 40 and 100 lbs. overweight, how to get fit and stay at the right weight. He knew I was asking for myself and not trying to needle him, but his reply was a little discouraging. He said "Well, the first thing you need to do is have the right genetics..." He said a few other things after that, but I don't think I even heard any of it, because in one minute of conversation he had completely convinced me I was doomed for life by a slow metabolism.
This blog post from Krista Stryker of the 12-Minute Athlete says otherwise, and I cannot wait to try some of these tips for boosting a slow metabolism. I'd heard of some of these recommendations before, but had never heard about drinking 16 oz of ice water in the morning, or drinking lemon water, or the effects of exposure to the cold. I am excited to see how some of these tips might work in conjunction with exercise and healthy eating.
