5K Your Way: Week 7 (finally) Complete!

Wednesday, October 23, 2013

Today I finished week 7 of Spark's 5K Your Way Training plan. I was supposed to be done on Monday, but my weekend trip and a slight cold got in the way. Today I was really rather curious if I really was building endurance, and wanted to know if I would be able of jogging without stopping the whole time.

Instead of following the typical walk 1 minute, run 4, I warmed up with a walk and then jogged as far as I could. I lasted about 27 minutes. I might have gone farther were it not for my Zombies, Run! mission ending then as well. I really worked at maintaining a steady pace to give me the best chance possible, but that was incredibly boring. I snuck a few faster intervals in there anyway.

I feel very good about my progress and potential for actually jogging a whole 5K next week. I was worried about making the jump, and I think starting early was a good idea. I am concerned about the boredom thing. I doubt I will get bored during a 5K, but as a part of my exercise regime it's annoying. The interval training kept it interesting, so I think I'm going to have to look up some beginner runner interval plans, especially considering I am almost done with season 1 of Zombies, Run! and don't know when I'll be able to buy s2.
