Biking in the Cold

Wednesday, October 23, 2013

Today was a lovely autumn day. No rain expected so I took my bike in to school again. Then the ISS was closed so I got to leave early. Early! I was giddy with excitement. I had worn this coat I had purchased from Lands End many, many years ago that I hadn't been able to wear in a very long time but it fits now. The coat is fleece with some sort of windbreaker lining, perfect for biking in the cooler weather. So I got to leave at noon. Very little traffic then, lucky for me. I had to wear gloves though since it was only 42 out but the coat was perfect. I wasn't hot or cold. It really did block the wind. And I was having a blast. Didn't walk up any hills, just the perfect day for biking. I made it home in 50 minutes and it wasn't even 1:00 yet. It felt like I'd been given a day off since DD wasn't home until 4:30 today. I loaded the dishwasher, did the extra dishes that wouldn't fit by hand (I actually enjoy washing dishes in the winter as it gets me warmed up), did a load of laundry, cooked cauliflower mash per DD request and a black bean recipe that I just made up while I was dumping stuff in a pan. Then, I got to sit down for a very restful hour and just read. Like I said, it was like a vacation day since I was home so early.
Shortly after DD returned home it started to snow. Snow! I was stunned. It didn't stick thankfully but it has my head spinning thinking about what tomorrow will bring. Should I try biking again or just walk? Guess it will depend on the weather report in the early AM. Today was a fun and wonderful day.

That was a nice post. I'm glad you enjoyed your mini day vacation. Sounds lovely to have a bit of snow. It is freezing here in NYC, but with no snow yet.

I like the snow! What can I say, I'm a winter baby.

Have a good weekend.

Wow, snow so early. Are there special tires to put on bikes that make it safer to ride in the snow. I know that die-hard bicyclists here in Boise, Idaho still bike even in the ice and snow. I personally think they are nuts! LOL
