I had signed up back in September for a C25K running program at a local park. This is the same program I completed before about 2+ years ago (after I had lost most of my weight) and that's what started me running and is also what is helping me maintain my weight.
The girl that leads the program is a runner and a teacher/coach. I really enjoyed doing the program with a group (and my sister and DD#1) and that is also what kept me from quitting (it was hard!). I've been wanting to do the program again because 1) I haven't quite gotten back to "5K form" and 2) she also works with more experienced runners to help them increase their speed - she has many repeat "customers".
I was really excited to sign up because I was finally able to make the days/times - - then DD#2 made the varsity volleyball team and her matches were on the same day as the classes, so I had to cancel.
Anyway, the point to this back story is yesterday I decided to do the 5K program here on Spark to get back to running the entire 3.1. I picked up DD#2 from basketball conditioning yesterday and she still wanted to run/shoot hoops, so we went to the gym. I was going to run inside, but it was such a nice evening, I ran the hilly trail. I did the 1 min. walk/3 min. jog - 7 times (Day 1 of the program) and it was pretty hard.
While I was doing one of jog portions, I ran past the "running class". They are nearing the end of the 8 weeks, so I was proud I was able to "blow past them" running.
I think doing this hilly trail is going to help with my endurance. I know I increased my speed last night during the jogging portion because I was able to finish 2 loops and did over 2 miles.
So, today is a "cross-training" or rest day. I need to go to the grocery store tonight (DD#3 made a menu for dinners) and we are out of a lot of stuff. I was going to "rest", but DD#2 just texted me that her conditioning was cancelled today and she wants to run again after school. I'll try to go to the grocery store first and get something started for dinner. I'll probably just walk while DD#2 runs/plays basketball.
Tomorrow DD#3 has a band concert and DD#2 has to be at the homecoming pep rally (they want all the fall sports teams to be there, so the volleyball team has to go). Both are at 7:00 and both are at the high school, so I'm planning to run right after work.
I really need to get new running shoes before I run again because I've had mine for a while and my feet were hurting last night, so I might try to run by Academy today.
I would like to end the blog on a "positive" note since I said I wasn't going to be so negative, but today was my weekly weigh in and I gained .6 lbs. So I gained back what I lost last week. I'm pretty much in a "maintenance" mode right now, even though I still have 5 lbs. to loose to be back at goal.
I figured my new goal (sort of a Halloween to Thanksgiving goal) is to loose 3 lbs. and maintain through the rest of the year. I'm going to complete the running program (works out pretty well because it's a 5 week program) and do a better job of tracking what I eat and lay off the candy! Oh and stay positive!
