I almost died on the Elliptical today

Wednesday, October 23, 2013

Today was gym day. I decided to start off with the tread mill. I usually don't last very long because I get bored and so I have to hop onto something else after a while. I lasted 25 mins. Then I moved to the stationary bike. I had planned to work out another 30 mins or so. However, when I sat on the bike in the gym, the sun was glaring at my face and I didn't have my sunglasses with me. So I lasted exactly 1 minute on the stationary bike.

I didn't feel like doing the rowing machine. So I decided to try this thing called the elliptical trainer, which seemed more for the elite group of people who workout daily and are much fitter than me.

Within the first 3 minutes, I was dying. It was too much for me to handle. My thighs were aching - the kinda ache you get during a hard workout. One part of me wanted to quit at the end of 3 minutes. And another part just whispered "Go on. Let's see what happens if you don't quit when you think you're dying. Let's just see if you really die...." And so the workout went on... and I lasted 16 minutes. Got my heart rate up to 171 and whoosh... the sweat was pouring. Loved it.

And no. I didn't die, even though I was close to it, within the first 3 minutes. But after that, it was a smooth ride, till I had enough.

It was a great workout day!

I LOVE the elliptical ... it gives a MUCH better workout than the treadmill or stationary bike, as you found out!!!!

You're doing it right ... start small and work your way up. You'll be there before you know it!!!!!

Congrats!

LOL, that's so funny! It just goes to show what the body can do when the mind is willing - from 3 mins to 16 mins!! Congratulations! emoticon

Good for you! I love the elliptical. It is so much fun and is a great workout. It gets easier. Make sure you were on a low incline and resistance. When I worked out at the gym it had a default setting of 10 % incline and a resistance of 10. Good luck.

Good for you for trying something new! I have never been on an elliptical and they look pretty scary to me. It takes all of my concentration to NOT fall off the treadmill!
