Progress, not perfection

Love the new look of the spark people.com Start Page. It encourages one to interact more with the features of the site. Going to the site is a habit. It took about 3 weeks and then I got anxious if I didn't go through my routine of visiting the site. I have met a lot of wonderful people and learned a lot of improving my mental and physical health. It has been such a year of positive change mainly due to the habit of coming to spark people and blogging, tracking my food, tracking with the fitbit, visiting other's blogs, reading articles, watching videos, excetera..I didn't think that I could do this so consistently. The feedback I have gotten from my sparkfriends has really been eyeopening. And only in retrospect do I see how much things have changed. When I was on weight watchers (3times) I hated writing down what I ate. I always felt trapped in what I could eat. Now if I eat something that is not really in my best interest like a brownie. I just write it down and track it. And I find that the calories even out in the end. I am just writing it down and not making a personal value judgement about it. Writing it down reminds me to just move on. I read somewhere on spark people that people who track what they eat lose more weight without working any harder. Well, that works for me so I write it down. I don't count calories, I just write and try to make good decisions. Now it is second nature. I also have realized that that has to be a slow process because there is so much change involved. So I am not getting down on myself for not getting it done quick. The times when I have lost weight quickly I have gained it back quickly and then some. I am content to do the best I that I can and inch forward a little bit each day. Cheers, Keith

emoticon Keith! This Spark experience is very different in that the focus is on forming new healthier habits as opposed to just losing weight. I have proven more than once that I can deny myself for a long time -- but that time is limited! This time around -- losing weight is a by-product of my getting healthier overall. This time it's been much slower but it's for keeps!!!

I just find tracking really helps me keep it real for ME, be honest with myself and make good choices. Just take it a day-at-a-time.

HUGS and good luck!

You are so right! One day at a time, one good choice at a time. I like the new start page also. Have a great Wed.
