Back on track

Today was a good day. I have been logging my food and beginning my return to weight loss for 2 weeks and attempting to walk my dogs more. Today I met w/ a health coach, discussed my fitness goals, and discussed what exercise options at the YMCA may be enjoyable for me and help me meet these goals. Previously when I was fit, I would swim, bike, and jog and kept myself accountable through competing in triathlons. I am attempting to be realistic as to whether or not a future return to this may be possible.

Today, I did get into the pool for a measly 20 minutes. I knew that it was going to be challenging for me, so this is actually the time goal I had set for myself. I am greatly challenged w/ my health change over the last couple years that resulted in a neck fusion of C5 through C7. This translates into limited neck rotation that minimally impacts my day to day life, but greatly impacts my ability to turn and breath w/ swimming.

I did use my snorkel quite a bit, though I am not fond of it. I am trying to embrace it as it may help me build more tolerance to time in the pool until I can easily tolerate the rotation both left and right to avoid a dependence on one side and a potential further impact on my neck.

Getting back on track may result in finding a new path rather than the one I previously enjoyed. I am going to try to embrace this as an opportunity rather than a loss.
