My Team Triumph - Canada's First Chapter and Race

Tuesday, October 22, 2013

This past Sunday my family and I were lucky enough to participate in Canada's very first My Team Triumph race. This is a program designed for disabled people to be able to participate in running races or endurance events that they may not be able to do on their own. The ones in the chairs are called Captains and they are pushed in specialized racing chairs by runners called Angels. My son is a Captains and both my husband and I are Angels.
Here are some photos:
My son is mobile but he can not do endurance races without the chair. His anxiety was greatly reduced when he was in the chair.

He was unsure at first about the chair as we like hiking the trails in the park and he was wondering why he was sitting instead of walking but he quickly found out why.

Here is my son with his Angels - he had four of us that day.

My husband and I pushing our son along the route. Lots of up and down hills along the course in this park.

We had lots of smiles and comments from the other runners in the 5k who were running their own event.

We gave our son a cowbell to shake when he seen other runners coming towards us and they loved it.

Group photo of all the Captains and Angels. There were a lot of volunteers too.

Here's our team, pictured with MTT Chapter President.

Was such an honour and privilege to be able to part of this extraordinary program. For more information on this program and to see a list of chapters that are near to you go to: If you are on Facebook do a search and you'll find a chapter
